8:36 p.m. MDT: Odile has been downgraded to a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. The center of Odile is over land about 60 miles northwest of Loreto, B.C.S., Mexico and moving to the north-northwest at 13 mph.

8 p.m. MDT: We are seeing photos purporting to show significant structural damage to Los Cabos International Airport, Mexico's seventh-busiest airport and the primary commercial airport for the Cabo San Lucas region. We are attempting to verify the authenticity of the photos. We can confirm the airport is closed until Sept. 22, according to a "Notice to Airmen" bulletin from the Federal Aviation Administration here in the U.S.

6:55 p.m. MDT: Damage pictures are starting to surface from the region's capital city of La Paz.

4:39 p.m. MDT: This is obviously sped up video, but it gives you a taste of what was going on in Loreto, B.C.S., a few hours ago. This area is now getting hit with wind gusts of up to 73 mph as Odile approaches.

4:10 p.m. MDT: Our Weather Underground observation site near Loreto on the Gulf of California coast is currently reporting sustained winds of 56 mph with gusts to 67 mph, and the barometric pressure is falling rapidly as the center of Hurricane Odile approaches.

3:31 p.m. MDT: According to Noticias MVS, a red alert has been issued for parts of the state of Sonora, in northwestern Mexico. Classes have been cancelled in several municipalities. Flash flooding is the major concern.

3:15 p.m. MDT: Luis Felipe Puente, national coordinator of Mexico's Civil Protection agency, just announced at a press conference that there have been no confirmed deaths at this time, but 135 people have been treated for injuries due to Hurricane Odile in the state of Baja California Sur.

3:02 p.m. MDT: This photo, just posted by a local reporter, appears to show structural damage at a car dealership in San Jose del Cabo, about 20 miles east of Cabo San Lucas on the southern tip of Baja California.

2:46 p.m. MDT: The latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center lowers Odile's maximum sustained winds to 80 mph, keeping it as a Category 1 hurricane. The center of Odile is now over land 45 miles southwest of Loreto, B.C.S., which is a town of about 15,000 on the Gulf of California coast.

2:38 p.m. MDT: The Associated Press says hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed in Colonia Unidad Real, a residential area built in a former creek bed in recent years. We've added photos of this area to the slideshow at the bottom of this page.

2:14 p.m. MDT: More damage photos continue to come out of the tourist zone of Cabo San Lucas. Damage to well-constructed hotels appears to be mostly cosmetic, but there is more serious damage to more informal structures such as pool bars, tiki huts, etc.
