#1. Sedlec Ossuary, Czech Republic
Since when do we use bones as decoration? Well, we guess the Black Death and the Hussite Wars had a good deal to do with it. Death was all around and the Czech people had a staggering sum of bodies in need of burial. The Church of All Saints, just and hour from Prague, was erected in 1400 with a charnel vault to store the ever-growing collection of bodies. By the 16th century, the remains of 30,000 souls had been packed into the chapel’s lower level
František Rint was the man called in to organize this clutter. Apparently a creative artist at heart, this wood carpenter created the most exceptional church decoration you will ever see.
#2. Hoia Baciu Forest, Romania
Welcome to Romania. The country of endless creepy stories and you are about to add a new one to your list. No longer is this the country where Dracula roamed and Van Helsing hero-ed. No, take a stroll through this forest: Hoia Baciu. Said to be the most haunted forest worldwide and nicknamed - how very cute - the Romanian Bermuda Triangle.
It seems as if this forest is the epicenter every paranormal phenomenon ever to pass the radar: disappearances, UFO sightings, strange vegetation, ghosts, bodiless voices, orbs of lights. We advise you to set up your tent elsewhere.
#3. Island of the Dolls, Mexico
This island, just south of Mexico city, only had one inhabitant: Don Julian Santana Barrera. According to the story Don Julian, found a young girl who had drowned under mysterious circumstances in 1951. Shortly thereafter, Julian saw a floating doll. Most probably, the doll belonged to the girl. He picked up the doll and hung it to a tree, as a way of showing respect and support the spirit of the girl.
This became some sort of ritual. Julian, said to be possessed by the spirit of the young girl, spun up hundreds of dolls in the tree’s on his island. Exactly 50 years after the death of the girl, in 2001, Julian was found dead.
Visit this nightmarish place and remember why you stopped playing with dolls a long, long time ago.
#4. Villisca Axe Murder House, USA
This house was the scene of one of the most horrific horror stories you will ever hear. On the evening of June 9, 1912 the people of Villisca in Iowa woke up to a horrific scene. Six members of the Moore family and two young family guests were bludgeoned to death in their sleep. The murder was never solved. To this day, the crime remains unsolved.
Left behind is one of the most haunted houses in the world. Which is given a commercial twist: if you and your friends can rent the house for a scary sleep over or ghost hunting night for $428 for 1 to 6 people and additional $74.90 for each extra person.
