I tend to write about guest blogging from time to time on my blog and other giant blogs as a guest writer. If you haven’t read my perspective about guest blogging, here are some of my articles: The REAL Benefits of Guest Blogging, Why Guest Blogging is NOT Toxic to your website and Why I Will Continue With Guest Blogging As Part Of My Strategy!, they will give you a better understanding of what I think about the subject.
Google may recommend you to avoid this strategy and others may call it toxic for your website but if you know how to do it right, it can do wonders for you and your business and also help your business stand out among the crowd.
In this article I will discuss in detail how to find guest blogging opportunities that positively affects your website and business.
Note: You might not be able to use all of them, but I believe most of the ideas are applicable for all niches.
Basic Level:
Search Operators
This is the most basic tactic that you can use to find some guest blogging opportunities for your website. All you have to do is to use Google simply. The idea is to write the following operators in your search box:
Niche “write for us”
Niche “guest post”
Niche “guest blog”
Niche inurl:contributors
There are more guest blogging operators but the ones I have mentioned are the most effective in finding opportunities that you never would have otherwise stumbled across. If you are looking for all search operators to find guest blogging opportunities, this blog post by Himanshu Sharma is awesome.
Competitor Link Analysis
This is another idea that falls in the basic category. The idea is to search for the links used by competitors to see where they are writing as a guest author, then outreach to them and write on their blog, like your competitor did.
In order to find the link profile of a competitor you probably need to use a tool like OSE, Ahrefs.com or Majestic SEO. Enter your competitors URL and within seconds you will get the backlink profile. Sort the data and pick the links that your competitor has built through guest blogging and outreach their website to create similar opportunity for yourself.
My Blog Guest
This is another way one can find some guest blogging opportunities. All you have to do is to create an account on MyBlogGuest.com and search for the blogs within your niche that are looking for guest writers on their blogs. My Blog Guest also has a WP Plugin which offers more options.
For instance, you are looking for blogs within the pet industry, all you have to do is to go thought the pet category and see which blogs are looking for guest writers. You can also find and contact the blog owners and request them to write on your blog as a guest author.
Intermediate Level:
Link Prospector
Link Prospector by Citation Labs is a tool that falls in the intermediate category. Although this is a link finding tool but guest blogging column allows one to get tons of quality blogs where guest blogging is possible.
All one has to do is add five keywords that are relevant to your niche and website, and within several minutes it offers you the list of blog sites that allow guest blogging on their blogs. Run a report for $2 and you’ll receive the list of opportunities available, now all one has to do is outreach and avail as many opportunities as possible.
SEOTeky Google Docs
This is another tool that helps you find guest blogging opportunities and it falls under the intermediate category. Jayson of SEOTeky writes a post that contains all the details of this tool he created.
The reason why this tool is really awesome is because instead of Google this tool caters the data from Twitter so the data is more real-time and of better quality.
Topsy
Topsy is an amazing tool, if you know how to use it properly. Topsy also has the power to help you find right guest blogging opportunities. All you have to do is write “guest blog” + niche and it will collect all the latest data from social channels for you.
I tried searching for food industry and this query on Topsy showed me around 40+ results.
Advanced Level:
Author Tag Stocking
Google came up with Author Tag a couple of months back and it has a direct positive impact on rankings which is why almost all authors are using this in all niches. Bloggers and regular writers are using this to improve SERP rankings but if you stock bloggers Author Tag, you probably will get some quality guest blogging opportunities.
A person’s Author Tag is linked to its Google+ profile and in the profile the author is required to add the blog’s URL where he contributes.
Now, all you have to do is to search for niche related authors on Google+ and see where they contribute. The next step is, outreach to those blogs and request them to let you write on their blog as a guest author.
Relationship Building
Many people talk about this but very few people are applying it successfully mainly because it requires time, dedication and great communication skills. Forming strong relationships can bring great link building opportunities for you and sometimes this will help you bring likes that other simply can’t.
Chris Dyson is one of the famous names in the UK SEO world and if you want to write on his remarkable blog called triple SEO then you probably need a personal connection with him otherwise you have a thin chance to write a guest post on his blog.
If you are going to use relationship building to find guest blogging opportunities, chances are you might get some of the highest quality opportunities which are otherwise impossible.
Blogs With Roundup Posts
Ok, let me admit that this is not dedicatedly a guest blog finding opportunity but by using this idea any kind of link can be built.
The idea is to find the blogs that normally do weekly or monthly roundup posts within your particular niche and list them in your file. Mostly people who do roundup posts are ready to link out to great sources as they realize its importance.
All you have to do is to find and contact them to ask for a guest blogging opportunity. As they are always looking for great content, they’ll probably allow you if your post seems to be useful for the target audience.
There is no limit to creativity so if you have any other creative idea from which we can find more guest blogging opportunities then do share in the comment section!
