Yesterday we did something really fun (or, potentially really stupid – it was to be determined), but it all turned out awesome! We took the boys to The Melting Pot!! Many months ago, we donated to St. Jude’s and got a $20 card to the restaurant when you order $50. It’s not too hard to spend that kind of money at the Melting Pot, so $20 off is a great deal! Well, yesterday was the last day to use it, so off we went with the kiddos!

We figured Xander would have a blast, we just had to teach him about the burner and what not to touch. He is seriously an awesome toddler and listened the whole time!! Lincoln also stayed happy and enjoyed some mum mums while we were there.

John and I aren’t too into the actual entree fondue they offer, so we do a yummy cheese fondue, get salads, and do the dessert fondue. Xander was okay with that arrangement as well

Going to The Melting Pot yesterday had me and John reminiscing about all the other times we’ve been there and how the gluten-free menu as changed as the years have passed. Yes, The Melting Pot is sooooo gluten-free friendly, in case you didn’t know!!

The first time we had ever been to The Melting Pot was when we were engaged and it was our first Valentine’s Day (ever) together. There was a special happening during the whole weekend and that’s when we experienced the whole four course process. We had a great time of course, but I remember at that time there wasn’t an official gluten-free menu and protocol for the staff. This was five years ago, yet it was still easy for me to figure out how to make it GF friendly.

Moving on to the next time we went, there was a GF menu!! The staff new how to make the base of all the fondues gluten-free as well as provide the correct GF dippers. There was no gluten-free bread to dip at this point. You see where this is going, right? The third time (and in a new state – Maryland this time), gluten-free bread was provided for me! YAYYY!!! And guess what!? Yesterday’s dippers during the dessert took things up a notch AGAIN!! There are now gluten free cake and brownie dippers for the dessert fondue! I was so surprised (and they were so delicious!) Normally, I would just get more fruit (which is still the healthier option), but I just LOVE seeing how their gluten-free menu has evolved. It’s such a nice option for those of us who need it.

So our Melting Pot journey has been over 5 years, with 4 visits in 3 states. We don’t eat out much, but The Melting Pot remains a favorite for a nice date night and now “fun dinner mommy” family date!

Is there a restaurant that you love that has gone through a menu evolution for the better?!

Is there a restaurant that you were afraid to bring your kids to but it ended up just fine!?

PS. Please excuse the dark iPhone pictures! If you’ve been to TMP, you know that the lighting is always dim!
