Senior Fitness trends
The age wave is becoming a tsunami!
The baby boomers have been responsible for creating a better world for us Xs, Ys and millennium generations.
That also means that most of us have got a higher life expectancy than our parents.
With the additional years that medicine and lifestyle improvements have given us it might be a good idea to keep our bodies in shape so that we can enjoy those additional years.
Statistics show that senior members at gyms are still the fastest growing demographic. In South Africa we still have yet to see any gym group pick up on the trend and cater more specifically to the seniors
Functional training.
Functional training which involves using the body in the way ot was intended to, as one unit, has become a craze. I suspect that like Spinning, (which became a craze 20 years ago) it will also have a long life ahead of it.
Seniors could benefit from using simple functional training tools such as balls, mats and kettle bells, all the way through to using the ultimate in functional training rotation systems; the CrossCore war Machine.
Suspension Training
Senior fitness enthusiast want to enjoy their lives and so exercise that mimics activities such as golf, hiking, climbing will certainly become very popular

Strength Training.
Muscle function and strength decreases rapidly with advancing age after the age of 40.
Depending on various studies after the age of 40 sedentary people will lose 10% of their muscle mass per decade.
This rapidly increase after the age of 65
The good news is that the process that is known in medical circles as Sarcopenia is largely reversible. (read more here)
How do we prevent this loss of functional mass that can lead to early immobility and increases the chances of deadly fractures from falls?
Strength Training with easy to use and safe equipment.
My recommendations are.
