Shonali Burke, an award-winning PR strategist and founder and president of Shonali Burke Consulting, Inc., will be honored as recipient of the Association of Women in Communications, Washington, DC, chapter’s 2015 Matrix Award on May 13 at the National Press Club. The award will be presented at AWC-DC’s award ceremony and annual tea.
The Matrix Award celebrates significant accomplishments and consistent excellence of communications professionals. AWC has recognized more than 200 prominent leaders in communications disciplines in the U.S. since creating the award in 1939. Past AWC-DC Matrix Award honorees have included Karen Jurgensen, Susan King, Deborah Tannen and Judy Woodruff.
Burke was named to PRWeek’s inaugural top “40 Under 40″ list of US-based PR professionals and, stated AWC-DC, is considered one of 25 women that rock social media. As president and CEO of Shonali Burke Consulting, Inc., “she uses measurable social PR to take business communications from corporate codswallop to community cool™. Shonali is adjunct faculty at Johns Hopkins University and Rutgers University, publisher of the popular PR and digital media blog, Waxing UnLyrical, and founder and curator of the #measurePR hashtag and Twitter chat,” added AWC-DC.
“We are incredibly pleased to be presenting this year’s Matrix Award to a woman who embodies the mission of the Association for Women in Communications,” said AWC-DC President Kristen Putch. “Shonali has distinguished herself in the world of public relations and is an inspiration to communicators in all fields.”
