Wine tasting October
This relatively large release signals the arrival of cool weather, and features red wines mostly from Tuscany and Spain.
The whites are mostly fine, but not exceptional save a few Meursault from Cote de Beaune in Burgundy.
One wine from Loire presented as a standard white qualifies as dessert, and I include it here as such.
Of the sparkling wines, the cremant d’Alsace brut rose represents good value.
If you are fond of champagne, try Le Vintage 2004 from Dumagnin. It is a fine wine at a reasonable price compared to Luminous Dom Perignon, 2004 more than four times the price of the former.
For spirits, my vote goes to clear Kirsch and Himbeergeist from Alfred Schladerer . Both are excellent eaux-de-vie to enjoy after a gastronomic dinner, with a fine cup of coffee.
For red wines Tuscany is well represented. Other regions’ offerings are quite good including those from Spain. Spanish wines, especially red wines, represent good value and deserve more attention on the part of red wine lovers.
