This week has seen another wave of appointments and departures at brands, media owners and agencies. The Drum has rounded up the key moves from the EMEA, APAC and North America regions below.

EMEA

​British Vogue

Vogue's longest serving editor Alexandra Shulman is stepping down in June after a quarter of a century in the role.

It is not yet known where Shulman will be moving to. She said simply she wants to "experience a different life" and looks "forward to a future separate to Vogue".

An announcement regarding a successor will be made in due course. The position will be advertised externally and will be open to candidates from both inside and outside the company, the publisher said.

​Publicis London

Publicis London has bolstered its creative department with the appointment of Polina Zabrodskaya as creative director.

Zabrodskaya, who joins from Publicis Italy where she was associate creative director, will be responsible for helping to drive the agency's agenda for innovation and develop integrated campaigns across Publicis’ clients.

She began her career at BBDO Russia where she spent six years as a senior copywriter and was the creator of Heineken’s award-winning campaign, ‘The Dilemma’.

J Walter Thompson London

Lucas Peon has been appointed as executive creative director of J Walter Thompson London as Russell Ramsey steps down after nine years.

Previously Peon worked as chief creative officer at Possible, and will now start in his new role at the end of January.

Vans

Simon Charlesworth has been appointed as brand marketing director at Vans, a division of VF Outdoor, have previously been head of brand at Paddypower.

NewsCred

Lisa Kalscheur has joined NewsCred as senior vice president.

Kalscheur, who was previously vice president of marketing at AppNexus, brings more than 15 years experience to the new job.

Iotect

Iotec has bolstered its team with two new hires, Jenita Rahman as chief finance officer and Claire Beney as human resources director.

Rahman, who has over 13 years experience in the industry, joins from Island Records where she worked as finance director.

Beney, who previously worked a HR business advisor in Deutsche Bank, has over 10 years experience.

Saffron

Saffron has appointed David Parry as chief operating officer in the hope he will accelerate global digital experience growth and capability.

Previously, Parry has worked as UK managing director of Razorfish working with clients including Unilever, HBO and Aviva.

University of Portsmouth

Karen Blackett, chairwoman of MediaCom, has been named chancellor of the University or Portsmouth, succeeding broadcaster and Women’s Equality Party co-founder Sandi Toksvig.

Blackett will take up the role officially in October to coincide with the beginning of the academic year. She is a graduate of the university herself, having gained a BA in Geography in 1992 as well as an honorary degree in 2015.

Toksvig steps down from the position after a five-year term in office.

Videology

Tim Gentry has joined Videology as senior vice president, advertiser and agency, EMEA.

Until last September Gentry was global revenue director at The Guardian, having spent two-decades with the publisher in a range of commercial roles.

He played a pivotal part in the development of the Guardian’s programmatic capabilities, merged its print and digital sales and spearheaded Pangea - the alliance between it and the Financial Times, CNN International, the Economist and Reuters. He left to launch his own media consulting practice.

Birds Eye

Birds Eye has promoted its category general manager, Steve Challouma, to marketing director after current marketing director Steve Chantry stepped down from the role to move to Kraft Heinz UK & Ireland.

Effective from 1 March, Challouma moves into the position following 20 years working in the Birds Eye business.

Most recently he held the position of category general manager across the Nomad Group fish portfolio, a role he took on following a number of years working across central marketing and brand teams within the business.

Iris

Iris has hired John Grant as chief strategy officer for its global Samsung business.

Grant, who co-founded independent creative agency St Luke's, will now be tasked with creating and converting global opportunities for Samsung, working with Iris' planning teams internationally to drive the business across APAC, Europe and the Americas.

He has over three decades worth of experience in the industry, having worked as a consultant since 1999. In that time he has also authored seven books on business and worked with Iris on an ad-hoc basis for 14 years.

New Look

New Look has replaced former digital director Jack Smith with Burberry’s head of user experience.

Smith – who had been leading a project to get the fashion retailer’s senior executives on board with emerging technologies – left last September to set up his own business.

Taking on the role as head of digital is Paul Rasmussen, who has spent nearly five years as Burberry’s head of user experience. He left the embattled luxury brand at the end of last year.

APAC

Ogilvy & Mather

Ogilvy & Mather has announced a duet of senior leadership changes, moving Katryna Mojica from Indonesia to Hong Kong, as Adam O’Conor transitions to president of global brand management for the agency in APAC full time.

Mojica has been moved to the Hong Kong office after driving double-digit growth for the Indonesian office, according to Ogilvy. Former Hong Kong CEO O’Conor, whose new role was first announced last year, will now be focusing on the new regional role full time.

Vox Media

Vox Media has named Lindsay Nelson, who has overseen the digital publisher’s branded content business, as its first chief marketing officer.

Nelson will oversee a restructured marketing division that consists of branded content division Vox Creative, premium digital marketplace Concert, revenue streams such as ad revenue share deals with platforms like Facebook, ad partnerships, as well as its external marketing efforts.

Integral Ad Science

Integral Ad Science (IAS) is to step up its investment in Southeast Asia, moving Niall Hogan, former UK MD and head of strategic development EMEA, to become managing director of Southeast Asia.

Having established the IAS business in the UK, the company is hoping he can do the same in Asia Pacific.

IAS, a data business that provides services for marketers to optimise ad spend, believe global issues around viewability, fraud and brand safety transfer to the region, presenting opportunity for the business to grow.

Host

Creative agency Host has appointed former DDB Group Melbourne chief creative officer Darren Spiller as its first CCO.

Spiller steps into the new role after departing DDB Melbourne last year after five years with the agency.

Prior to this, he was CCO at Fallon USA and regional creative director of Publicis Mojo Australia and New Zealand, where he also worked as ECD.

North America

Publicis Groupe

Publicis Groupe has announced that Arthur Sadoun, head of Publicis Communications, will replace Maurice Levy as chairman and chief executive of Publicis Groupe on 1 June.

Levy, who has served as CEO of Paris-based holding company for 30 years, will now take on the role of chairman of the supervisory board.

Hush

Brooklyn experience design agency Hush has expanded its creative production team, appointing Eloise Murphy as Senior Producer.

Murphy will assume a variety of responsibilities, from overseeing all project phases and developing relationships with new and existing vendors to fostering the optimal environment for the creative team’s best work, all while leveraging her brand and client experience in the process.

Google Cloud

New York Times deputy tech editor editor Quentin Hardy is taking a leap from old media into new media with an announcement on Twitter that he is to take up the position of head of editorial at Google Cloud.

Google has since confirmed the appointment but hasn’t provided any further detail on the precise nature of the role ahead of Hardy commencing work on 6 February.

Speaking to Recode about his move Hardy said that he would be dividing his time between San Francisco and Mountain View in California.

Cutters Studio NY

Cutters Studio New York has promoted Julia Pepe to director of business development.

Pepe joined Cutters in New York as a producer in 2014 following time as a producer and studio manager with Mcgarrybowen in Chicago.

Cutters named Pepe a senior producer in 2015 and she contributed to projects for the United Nations, the Museum of Modern art, as well as for major agencies, publishers and media companies worldwide, and client-to-client projects for the NHL and for feature film and television projects.

Hill Holiday

Hill Holliday has its named its first president since 2013 and has also hired its first COO.

Agency veteran Chris Wallrapp has been named president and Leslee Kiley has been announced as chief operating officer by Karen Kaplan, chairman and CEO of Hill Holliday.

“In the last 18 months we’ve developed some remarkable momentum,” said Kaplan, “but we’re not about to take our foot off the gas. Which is why it’s the perfect time to double down on our leadership strength, so I can focus on critical industry issues and where marketing’s headed ten years from now.”

Ford

Ford Motor Company has hired former Apple retail global marketing and communication director Musa Tariq as its new vice president and chief brand officer.

The hiring of Tariq is part of the company’s expansion as an auto and mobility company and its drive to further connect and engage customers.
