Overland Park, KS —Sunayana Dumala was named one of five winners of this year’s Consensus Civility Award. This award highlights people who have worked across differences to improve the community. Representative Kevin Yoder (R-KS) issued the following statement:
“Congratulations to my friend, Sunayana Dumala, for receiving this year’s Consensus Civility Award. I have been honored to get to know Sunayana and have seen her work every day to promote civility, community and a sense of welcome to people around the globe. Unfortunately, I met Sunayana under the most horrific of circumstances when her husband was the fatal victim of a hate crime at a neighborhood restaurant in Olathe. While Sunayana was dealing with her intense grief and loss, she was inspired to establish Forever Welcome, a social media campaign supported by her employer to show that America is still a welcoming and safe place for current and future immigrants.
“Sunayana’s message of unity and acceptance continues to spread across our region and across the world, creating a wave of positive change. I am humbled and honored to have nominated her for this important award. Congratulations again to Sunayana, and to all of the winners of this year’s award.”
