Hello and welcome to the guide to the Italy Cookie Choices WordPress plugin, which allows website owners to comply with the European cookie law more easily by showing a notice to your visitors the first time they visit your website. You can modify the message, position and style of the Cookie notice using the options available once the plugin has been installed.

Step 1) Login to the WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2) On the Dashboard of your website, scroll down the left-hand sidebar and click on Plugins



Step 3) From the Installed Plugins page, click on Add New at the top of the page. Alternatively, click on Add New from the dropdown menu under Plugins on the sidebar.



Step 4) On the Add Plugins page, type in the name of your plugin in the search box on the right hand side, at the top of the page.



Step 5) From the Search Results page, scroll down to your chosen plugin and click the button marked Install Now. If you would like to learn more about your plugin, click the blue link marked More Details

Step 6) The plugin is now installed and unpacked into your website. The last thing to do now is click Activate Plugin

Step 7) Once activated, you will be redirected to the Installed Plugins page. From here, you can read all the info about your plugins, and deactivate and delete it if you no longer need it.

Step 8) From the Admin Panel, click on Settings >> Italy Cookie Choices. This will direct you to the settings page for the plugin.

Step 9) To activate the display banner for the Cookie Law in the front-end of your website, tick the box marked Activate.

Step 10) The next step is choosing where the display the banner. You have two choices: The Top Bar (at the top of your page), or Dialog (an overlay/pop-up that shows your message). The mouse scroll event means that the message will follow you when you scroll down the page. Tick the box to accept this feature. You can also choose to refresh the page after you’ve clicked on the button, and write the text that will accompany your message (this is usually your cookie policy)

Step 11) If you have a URL for your cookie policy, add it into the box provided. You can add anchor text and button text to accompany it.

Step 12) You can customise the style settings for your cookie law box by ticking the box marked HTML Top Margin. This will add a margin for the information top bar to ensure that it can be seen on all devices and browsers.

Step 13) In the Advanced Settings section, you can customise your cookie settings, including giving your policy page a slug, opening it on a new page when somebody clicks on it, and giving the cookies a name and value. Hit the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page when you’re finished.

Step 14) Below is an example of how your cookie policy will look when it is live on your website. Your users can click on the link to be taken to the policy page, or click Close to get rid of the message.
