Nineteen year-old, Arinjoy Dev has opted to study Medicine at Palacky University in the Czech Republic, despite gaining offers from UK universities this year.
Arinjoy, who repeated his A Level year, determined to achieve the results he needed to gain a place on a medical course, was set to study Biochemistry in the UK in September until researching European opportunities.
“I always knew I really wanted to study Medicine, even though I had my Biochemistry place,” said Arinjoy. “I’d heard about the courses in the Czech Republic, which are taught in English, and after looking into it I applied. I had to do an extra exam as well as attend an interview but I was offered an unconditional place.
“The course is six years long, like some Medicine courses in the UK, and I’ll also learn some Czech as part of it. I’ll then be able to return to the UK to gain employment. I’m really looking forward to it!”
Arinjoy put in extra time to study for the Czech exam after completing his A Levels in the Summer and was resolute in his decision to go to Europe, if accepted.
“I knew that I would never be satisfied studying a course I didn’t really want to do but was under no illusion that Medicine is a competitive course to get on to. This way, I get to do the course I want and have a great experience at the same time!”
