The Games Developer Conference (GDC) is a major event in the gaming industry’s calendar. It is famous as a celebration of entertainment culture that’s bursting with companies and individuals looking to create new and exciting visual experiences. For those in the industry, it is a must-attend event.

One big trend across GDC in recent years has been the rise of mobile as a gaming platform. Imagination’s PowerVR Series7XT graphics architecture continues to set the bar for cutting-edge smartphone graphics at the high-end and, with the recent launch of the PowerVR Series 8XE Plus, we have the perfect platform to engage with the mid-tier of the market across smartphones, set-top-box and TVs. Following on from this Imagination Technologies will be at GDC to showcase some of its recent work across both rasterized and ray-traced rendering and to highlight some of its exciting new innovations and collaborations.

The theme of this year’s show for Imagination will be ‘Making Better Pixels’, as we continue to focus not just on extending our performance edge, but also in enhancing the quality of the images that our hardware can bring to mobile, AR and VR devices. PowerVR brought impressive 3D graphics to phones when most said it could not be done within the power budgets available and has been the GPU behind millions of games and entertainment apps. Today, PowerVR is unlocking performance that not only enables the transfer of previous-gen console assets to mobile devices but also the creation of innovative new mobile-only gaming franchises.

At the show, we will be demonstrating new features found in upcoming chipsets incorporating our PowerVR graphics and also the latest developments in our ground-breaking ray tracing technology, which shortens development cycles and enables higher levels of realism in games.

If you want to get the low-down on the exciting developments we’ve got in store for 2017 you’ll want to get down to our booth to meet with our experts. The show will be taking place between the 27 February and 3 March at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California and you can arrange a meeting by emailing gdc@imgtec.com. You can also come by Booth #532 on the expo floor.

At the conference, we will be again presenting one of our popular (get there early!) panel sessions on “The Future of VR and Mobile Graphics”. Tobias Hector, a leading software design engineer at Imagination, will chair this session with:

Cass Everitt, Software Engineer, Oculus

Craig Donner, Daydream Platform Software Engineering Lead, Google

Scott Flynn, Director of Development, VR&AR, Unity

Christopher Peri, Director, Mobile Platform and Solutions, Samsung Electronics

Ryan Vance, Senior Rendering Programmer, Epic Games

You can also follow us on Twitter @Imaginationtech, @GPUCompute and @PowerVRInsider for more news and announcements from Imagination. For a good overview of our overall strategy, be sure to take a look at this interview with Imagination CEO Andrew Heath in Electronics Weekly.

During the events we will also be using the hashtag #IMG_GDC and #MakingBetterPixels – use them to talk to us on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+.
