Long has the Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate ran, and long has it not resolved with a winner.

Since Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid , the Argentine has scored 396 goals and bagged 149 assists in 390 appearances. The Portuguese, however, has scored 380 goals and notched 105 assists in 367 games.

Messi has won five Ballon d’Ors to Ronaldo’s four and both have won at least three Champions League – the Barcelona forward pipping Ronaldo with four.

But stats mean nothing to Pep Guardiola who has seen both players in the flesh – and he’s made up his mind.

Earlier in the week Luis Enrique said that to compare Messi with any other player is ridiculous.

Does Pep agree?

Speaking in his Hull City vs Man City pre-match press conference, this is what Guardiola had to say: “I agree with Luis Enrique. He’s the best. Yes, he is. He’s the best.

“Because he knows how play, how to score goals. Because he’s always… with all respect to the other players who have won, and congratulations to Cristiano, but Leo is the best.

“He’s at another level.”
