*{+}Street Address when calling 911{+}* -- When calling 911, county dispatch will see the street address of the person making the call.  But due to the size of our buildings, people will need to describe their location within the building.

*{+}Utilizing only the 871 extension{+}* -- To minimize confusion on the 871 or 872 extension and reduce the number of phone numbers assigned to MU, we will be reassigning all 872-XXXX and 871-2XXX to 871-4XXX, 871-5XXX and 871-7XXX numbers.

*{+}10-digit dialing off campus{+}* -- When making an off-campus telephone call, you will need to dial the whole number including the area code.  Lancaster County is one of the last counties in PA to make this switch.

*{+}Phones capabilities per person{+}* \-  Phones will be assigned to conference rooms and individuals rather than a location.  Now that cell phones are so popular and provide mobility to all locations, we are focusing on providing individuals with telephones rather than all locations.  Therefore, we will be removing telephones from computer labs, classrooms, break rooms, etc.

*{+}Fax Capabilities moved to Ricoh MFD{+}* -- To minimize the number of fax lines needed, we will be directing all fax functionality to the Ricoh Multi-function devices rather than standalone fax machines. At a later date, we hope to move to a software based faxing solution. NOTE - you will still have to dial "9" when faxing to an outside line.

* Your new voicemail box has been setup and you can log into it to record your new prompts at any time. To assist you in doing this, you will be presented with a tutorial the first time you call in. To call into your voice mailbox dial 7878 (717-871-7878 from a non-campus phone), enter your new extension when prompted and your temporary password is 1234.

* Your old mailbox will need to inform callers that your telephone number has changed. This should be done after your extension has changed. Again, you can call into your old mailbox by dialing 3926 (872-3926 from a non-campus phone).

* After your old mailbox message has been updated (and all old messages deleted) please email helpdesk@millersville.edu to disable the voicemail on your old extension.

* At a future date it will be announced when old numbers will no longer be in service.

Changes with New Telephone System

Using 8 to dial an outside line
– With the new telephone system, the University will dial an 8 to get an outside line instead of 9, which we use today. We are making this switch to help reduce the number of accidental 911 calls.

Street Address when calling 911
– When calling 911, county dispatch will see the street address of the person making the call.  But due to the size of our buildings, people will need to describe their location within the building.

Utilizing only the 871 extension
– To minimize confusion on the 871 or 872 extension and reduce the number of phone numbers assigned to MU, we will be reassigning all 872-XXXX and 871-2XXX to 871-4XXX, 871-5XXX and 871-7XXX numbers.

10-digit dialing off campus
– When making an off-campus telephone call, you will need to dial the whole number including the area code.  Lancaster County is one of the last counties in PA to make this switch.

Phones capabilities per person
-  Phones will be assigned to conference rooms and individuals rather than a location.  Now that cell phones are so popular and provide mobility to all locations, we are focusing on providing individuals with telephones rather than all locations.  Therefore, we will be removing telephones from computer labs, classrooms, break rooms, etc.

Fax Capabilities moved to Ricoh MFD
– To minimize the number of fax lines needed, we will be directing all fax functionality to the Ricoh Multi-function devices rather than standalone fax machines. At a later date, we hope to move to a software based faxing solution. NOTE - you will still have to dial "9" when faxing to an outside line.

Instructions for New Extensions

Your new voicemail box has been setup and you can log into it to record your new prompts at any time. To assist you in doing this, you will be presented with a tutorial the first time you call in. To call into your voice mailbox dial 7878 (717-871-7878 from a non-campus phone), enter your new extension when prompted and your temporary password is 1234.

Your old mailbox will need to inform callers that your telephone number has changed. This should be done after your extension has changed. Again, you can call into your old mailbox by dialing 3926 (872-3926 from a non-campus phone).

After your old mailbox message has been updated (and all old messages deleted) please email helpdesk@millersville.edu to disable the voicemail on your old extension.

At a future date it will be announced when old numbers will no longer be in service.
