William D. Wright, 66, died Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at McLeod Hospital, Florence, S.C. Born in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Lonnie Dolphus Wright and Maggie Porter Wright Simmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Randy Wright; and stepfather, Charles Simmons.

William was an educator, beginning his career at Green Sea High School as a teacher and coach. He taught and served as assistant principal at Tabor City West Elementary School and was assistant principal at East Columbus High School and West Columbus High School. William was principal of Acme-Delco Middle School, Evergreen Elementary School, Tabor City Middle School, Boys and Girls Home and Cerro Gordo Elementary School.

William was a member of New Life Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 22 at Inman Ward Funeral Home. Final rites will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23 at New Life Baptist Church. Burial will be in Myrtle Green Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne McKee Wright of the home; one daughter, Adrienne Wright Carroll (Trevor) of Burgaw; one son, Colby Grant Wright (Allison) of Monticello, Ill.; two brothers, Steve Allen Wright of Tabor City, Johnny Steadman Wright of Green Sea, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Alaina Carroll and Molly Carroll.
