Oscar Wilde said,
“Be yourself. Everybody Else Is Already Taken.”
Recently – I was watching a Vodcast with Ken Walls and Justin Breen (Of BrEpicLLC). One of the things he said that I just loved, was:
“I know what I’m really good at. And I keep doubling down on that.”
Justin KNOWS his audience and the tribe that will embrace his message and/or work with him as a client. It’s very refreshing when you find someone who is willing to be themselves.
It reminds me of the following image.

There are several examples of people who behave this way.
Whether it’s Adam Carolla and his “Pirate Ship” (The Podcast and all all his ventures that he’s 100% in control of.), Joe Rogan, or Gary Vaynerchuk – if you look hard enough, you can find the true originals that are unapologetic for being themselves.
Speaking of Adam Carolla. I listened to a Podcast where he was interviewing the great Dennis Miller. When he asked Dennis about his style – Dennis said:
“I have one Monkey Trick – a reasonably deep drawer and nice retrieval system. It feeds my family. I get paid to not be caught out. My comedy runs on adrenaline and fear that I’m not going to make a good living. I make it if I don’t bust my ass and continue to deliver – I’m out – and I got to go work for a living. I’m like Pete Rose! I run everything out to first. I’m going in head first!”
If you want the evangelistic fans that fuel the creation of a tribe (Seth Godin‘s Tribes Concept. Where a 1000 true fans create a movement – that in turn cause an exponential amount of people to follow.) – you need the people that love you and your culture. Check out the man himself explaining it during one of his Ted Talks.
