SMYRNA, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Smyrna Police Department said a situation that was previously as "an active shooter situation" "is no longer an active shooter situation."
According to the SPD's Facebook post, the situation happened Tuesday afternoon near Lee Victory Parkway at a liquor store. Shortly before 3:30 p.m., authorities said "the suspect is currently barricaded" at the site.
Smyrna police have closed Lee Victory Parkway at Bulldog Drive and from Almaville Road to Lee Victory Parkway. Legacy Drive at Almaville Road is also closed as is Old Almaville Road from Lifepoint Church. Drivers have been advised to seek alternate routes.
Officers are on the scene. A helicopter with the Tennessee Highway Patrol has been called to assist Smyrna authorities with the situation. Smyrna police have asked people to avoid the area and said that updates would be made available.
The Emergency Alert System has been activated in Rutherford County and relayed by the National Weather Service instructing people in the area of Legacy Drive and Lee Victory Parkway to shelter in place "due to law enforcement matters."
News 2 spoke to Montorio Swader, who lives in the area, and said he was concerned for the safety of his children.
"It worries me because of my kids," Swader said. "My kids come out here every day. They play every day and most of the time, it's peaceful ... I've never seen it like this before. They've got all the roads locked down. I can't even leave the house if I wanted to."
No further details were immediately released. News 2 has sent a crew to the scene.
