The Wales Green Party welcomes the response from members of the Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs committee giving reassurance of a co-operative and evidence based approach to climate change and environmental protection. The response, signed by the majority of the committee, follows concerns expressed by over 7500 petition signatories after the appointment of Mark Reckless from UKIP as Chair of the Committee.
Wales Green Party would like to thank all those who signed the petition for bringing these concerns to the attention of committee members.
Alice Hooker-Stroud, Wales Green Party Leader, said: “We welcome the committee’s pledge that Wales will show ‘leadership on climate change, sustainable development and the natural environment’. We will continue to hold the committee to account and ensure that these pledges are met. With the Westminster government abandoning its environment and climate change department, and the prospect of protections being removed at European level, it’s more important than ever that the Assembly prioritises a sustainable future for Wales.”
