A few options when it comes to the nose area are: rhinoplasty; septoplasty, and revision rhinoplasty. To help narrow down your search, revision rhinoplasty procedures are only performed on patients who have been through a rhinoplasty procedure before and were not satisfied with the results of the procedures or something went wrong during the recovery process.

What is the Difference Between a Rhinoplasty and Septoplasty?

A rhinoplasty simply means to re-shape one’s nose. During a rhinoplasty procedure, the whole nose could be worked on depending on the patient’s desired appearance. For instance, you may consider a rhinoplasty procedure if you are looking to contour your nose and give it a whole new shape and look. That way, the entire nose will be worked on to help give you a even appearance. If you are considering a septoplasty procedure, that procedure will be focused more so on the septum (air way) of your nose and re-shaping of that area. There may be many reasons as to why a person may consider getting a septoplasty procedure instead of the whole rhinoplasty procedure. The most common reason is because a person may be suffering from air way blockage due to a deviated septum, crooked nose from a previous break, and possibly the cartilage becoming too weak where the septum may collapse. There can be a ton of different reasons as to why a person’s air way may become blocked, and if that is the case for you then a septoplasty procedure is definitely something to consider.

What if I Just Have a Hump On My Nose?

Even though some of the more common reasons as to why a person may consider getting a septoplasty is due to a blocked air way, does not mean they is the only reason. A genetic trait a person may obtain from birth could be a nasal hump that is on the bridge of your nose. Something like that may not be as prominent when a person is young, but may become more prominent as they become older and as the years go on. To most people the nasal hump is not a very attractive trait to have right in the middle of your face and most people would like to have that fixed.

How Are Septoplasty Procedures Completed?

A septoplasty procedure is typically performed with an open approach and what that means is an incision will be made and opened up so Dr. Naderi can see exactly what he is doing during the procedure. Dr. Naderi will position his incision to give you the smallest and less noticeable scar. Depending on what the septoplasty is, utilizing multiple techniques can be used such as a cartilage graft or an implant. Sometimes, cartilage will be carved down and sculpted to the desired shape. Dr. Naderi will discuss your procedure journey and what he recommends based on the information you have provided to him.
