While the top comic of May was not an incredible surprise, it was nice to see the number as high as it was. With the most recent swathe of post-Convergence DC titles not doing as well as they would have hoped, they really need a commercial and critical success with DC Rebirth. People seem to love it, and sales are incredibly strong, so hopefully that will lead them into the coming few months of new titles and Rebirth one-shots.
The rest of the top ten are really all a part of events in their own right. Civil War II is see its pre-beginning with issue #0
What is surprising about the top of the list is that Captain America Steve Rogers #1 is so far down(at #5) given the giant storm it caused in media around the world.
In general, Marvel is dominating the top 50 almost uniformly, except for a few top DC and Image titles. Walking Dead is down at #13, a little lower than usual, and the next indie title is Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers #3 from Boom! Studios.
The new version of The Killing Joke lead the Trade/OGN numbers, which also is a lead up to the animated film adaptation. What is really interesting is to see Descender reach the second spot, which has not been an incredibly huge seller issue to issue.
