Summary of Position:

The successful candidate will be remotely based from the San Diego, CA area or located in our Morrisville, NC office.

You will have responsibility over a combination of financial accounting/reporting and financial planning/analysis.  We are looking for an accounting manager who will assist the Controller for all aspects of financial accounting and reporting; develop and implement systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting information and supervise, track and evaluate day-to-day activities.  Also responsible for the Company budget and financial analysis activities, including monthly budget reporting and ad hoc financial analysis, working directly with the CFO. This is a very visible position for an individual who demonstrates strategic and analytic thinking, confidence, humility, creativity, effective communication skills, and collaboration.

Job Title:  Manager/Senior Manager, Finance and Accounting

Duties and Responsibilities – Essential Functions:

Financial accounting/reporting:

Manage and oversee the daily accounting operations:

Accounts payable, monitor activity and process invoices

Monitor department and study code classification

General ledger

PO review and approval

Contract review and approval

Month, quarterly and end-year close process

Balance sheet reconciliations

Revenue and expenditure variance analysis, monthly

Significant vendor accrual estimate, monthly and quarterly

Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports and statements, including SEC filings

Follow and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles

Coordinate and complete annual audits along with quarterly reviews

Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions

Assist the Controller to ensure compliance and accuracy with policies and principles

Meet financial accounting objectives and timelines

Establish and maintain fiscal files and records

Financial planning/analysis:

Work closely with Department Heads to prepare budgets and re-forecasts, on an annual and periodical basis, as needed

Lead the financial reporting process of analyzing budget vs. actuals and related forecasts. Monthly reporting to internal management/budget managers.

Lead the continuing development of our FP&A planning tool, PBCS (Oracle), to improve efficient forecasting and analysis

Ad hoc financial analysis for cross functional teams, as needed

Requirements:

Proven working experience as Accounting Manager or Finance Manager

Demonstrated budgeting and financial analysis skills

3-7 years of relevant biotech/pharma work experience in a financial analysis/accounting management role that requires business support and senior management interaction

Advanced computer skills on MS Office, accounting software and databases

NetSuite, experience a plus

Ability to manipulate large amounts of data and work with pivot tables

Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations

SEC reporting, produce 10Q, 10K and other filings

High attention to detail and accuracy

BS degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA/MBA preferred.

Exceptional level of professionalism, with a focus on collaboration, flexibility and neutrality when working with both internal and external stakeholders, while effectively influencing with diplomacy.

Strong leadership abilities, with a focus on effective prioritization and appropriate sense of urgency
