On an  imaginative course and with the stars of British Cyclo-Cross on the start sheet, next weekend in Ipswich looks like a cracking event of off roading

National Trophy: Round 4 Ipswich Next Weekend

NOTE – the Form Guide can (largley) be seen in the Series Tables – click  here to see them

The event at Trinity Park will start on the Saturday with events for novices, official practise for the Trophy riders, the opportunity to train with Dutch star Thijs Al, and in the evening, live music, a bar (of course) and more including a flood lit ‘Mad Madison’ charity relay race.

Then Sunday sees the Trophy race kick off at 10.15 as usual on what I understand is the longest course of the season at over 3 kilometres and including a section through a cattle bar! It will also include steps, ups and down and has been designed to utilise the buildings & 4 x 4 track as well as be spectator friendly.

There is also secure overnight Motorhome parking on site (£20).

This should be interesting!  A race through a cattle barn with a bar

Great to see some steps in the course!

The Riders

The line up for Ipswich is, as ever, a star studded one and the Elite Men’s event is sure to be a cracking race. Not only because Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles Ridley) and Yorben Van Tichelt are down to ride and there is little between them which has resulted in some cracking racing, Liam Killeen is also entered and we can only hope he rides because his performance in Abergavenny would have put him up with Field and Van Tichelt. Then we have Paul Oldham getting better with each round and David Fletcher and Jack Clarkson also up there in the mix. If that was enough, Tom Van Den Bosch has his first race in the series for Hargroves Cycles Ridley.

The Women’s race too will be tight with series leader Hannah Payton fighting hard with the yellow jersey on her back as Estrella ambassador Beth Crumpton pushes her all the way to the line as we saw in Hetton Park. Within the Women’s race, the Junior women are having their own battle to get onto the podium and we can expect another close race between the likes of Elspeth Grace, Emily Wadsworth and Megan James and Sophie Thackray.

In other categories, there’s no Tom Pidcock in the Junior race so that will be open whilst in the other events, all the series leaders are down to ride and defend their jerseys. Fingers crossed now for some good weather!

The Women’s race at Hetton Park came down to a sprint finish between Hannah Payton and Beth Crumpton
