At a ceremony earlier this month, the City of Santa Ana officially opened a new green space named in honor of the city's former Parks and Recreation Department Director.
Gerardo Mouet Park, which spans one acre at Standard and McFadden Avenues, sits on a property that was once a vacant lot. According to a city news release, the $4.5-million project includes:
State-of-the-art play equipment with a shade sail
Outdoor exercise equipment
Skatepark
Basketball court and collapsible sports net
Open turf
Benches
Picnic tables
Drinking fountain

“Gerardo Mouet Park represents the City of Santa Ana’s commitment to creating new green spaces and fostering community connections under our Parks Master Plan,” said Santa Ana Mayor Valerie Amezcua. “This park is a meaningful tribute to Mr. Mouet, who left a legacy of community advocacy, equity and environmental stewardship within our parks system.”
The name for the park was selected through a community survey. Mouet had served as executive director for the Santa Ana's Parks And Recreation agency for 14 years between 2004 and 2018, when he left for a similar role in the City of Long Beach. He passed away in March 2023.
