Reports reaching Byta FM News desk reveal that several pupils at Mazabuka’s St. Josephs Secondary and Monze Boarding Schools have tested positive for Covid-19.
The cases have emerged days after schools reopened this month with authorities promising learning facilities in the region are safe for pupils and members of staff.
Sources within the education sector in the two districts have told Byta FM exclusively that a combined close to thirty pupils at both schools tested positive for Covid-19 shortly after reporting for school last week.
However, authorities at both schools have declined to comment on the matter and referred all queries to their respective District Education Board Secretaries.
Meanwhile, Southern Province Education Officer, Florence Chikalekale could neither immediately deny nor confirm the reports.
Chikalekale, however, says she is out of the region and has not received communication from respective districts.
Meanwhile, Mazabuka District Pandemic Preparedness Committee Chairperson, Jenny Chirwa also promised to revert after inquiring from the health office, but her phone went unanswered by broadcast time.
