- The identity of the Kenyan who drove an explosive-laden vehicle into KDF camp in Somalia has been revealed

- The Kenyan was born in Siaya and raised in Nairobi but joined al-Shabaab in 2013

- He was killed by KDF soldiers

More details have emerged regarding the recent al-Shabaab attack on a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) camp in Kulbiyow, Somalia that left nine soldiers dead.

It has emerged that among the attackers was a Kenyan driver who drove a vehicle carrying explosives into the KDF camp.

Suicide bomber Anwar Yogan Mwok drove the vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) that exploded meters away from the camp before it could gain access into the camp.

"Mwok was in one of the lead vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices that targeted the KDF camp. He was killed by the heavy artillery fired by the KDF and died instantly," an official said.

Other two Kenyans, Ramadhan Kungwa and Erick Ogada, who were among the militants escaped with injuries.

Mwok was once a Mathare United footballer. He was born in Siaya in 1981 and moved with his parents to Nairobi.

They lived in Eastlands' Umoja Estate. He was born a Christian but converted to Islam.

In 2013, he sneaked out of the country into Somalia where he joined al-Shabaab.
