Joho's spat with the President was followed by the withdrawal of his security detail, something many viewed as an act of impunity and intimidation on the government's part.

Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa later said the withdrawal of the govenor's security was part of a routine internal re-organisation.

Kilifi govenor Amason Kingi, also another fierce Jubilee critic, also came out strong, saying they would not be shaken by the intimidation tactics from the government.
