On Friday last week, we did the story of Little Emily, a girl who was born with a disease that was later established to be a hole in her heart sending shock-waves across her entire community and family.

At just one and a half years old, Little Emily was hit with the dumbfounding news - she was battling a congenital heart disease.

Her parents sprang to action, starting immediate fundraising efforts across all their networks and even frantically knocking on doors they didn't even imagine they would find themselves outside of.

Her parents, a pair of measly peasants from Kisumu, have spent sleepless nights since then trying to get anyone who cares to come to the aid of the poor Angel.

Major TV networks turned them away. Radio stations too. Politicians kicked them out of their offices. But they soldiered on and kept the spirit going.

Now, Tuko highlighted the heart-rending story and within the first two hours of publishing the story, readers had already raised as much as Ksh 35,000.

Well-wishers kept the donations coming and by Saturday morning (Nov. 26th), the figure had already ballooned to Ksh 56,000

And as we speak right now, Emily parents have gathered as much as Ksh 128,000 from the great community that makes up the Tuko readers.

In fact, the proceeds proved to be so promising that Emily has been scheduled to visit Dr. Christine Jowi at her Hurlingham Hospital this Thursday for checkups and also for the latest medical update.

It should be remembered that the family is still trying to reach the Ksh. 1,000,000 limit that will enable them to pay for the poor girl's heart surgery abroad.

From our editor's desk, we say, Asanteni sana!

Emily still needs to reach her target and get a new lease of life. Get a new smile and stand tall again.. Like all kids her age.

May the best thing you'll do this Christmas holiday, may the most humane thing you'll do this festive season be donating a coin to this little princess.

Let's finish what we started, let's get the numbers even higher, lets push the drive to higher levels, let's help the dream be realized, let's keep the vigil strong, let's keep the hope of the little girl alive.
