This Sunday (2nd October) is Grandparents’ Day – the perfect day to show the grandparents in your child’s life (or your own if you’re lucky enough to still have them around!) how special and appreciated they are.

Children often have a unique relationship with their grandparents – granny and grandad are usually able to enjoy their company without all the additional burdens of 2am wake-ups and daily school runs after all! According to some lovely stats from US website grandparents.com:

72% think being a grandparent is the single most important and satisfying thing in their life

63% say they can do a better job caring for grandchildren than they did with their own children

68% think being a grandparent brings them closer to their adult children

90% enjoy talking about their grandkids to just about everyone

Parents are so busy nowadays, often both needing to return to work when children are still young. It’s pretty well acknowledged how essential grandparents can be when it comes to helping out with childcare. But did you know (from gov.uk) that in the UK:

1 in 4 working families and 1 in 3 working mothers use grandparents for childcare

63% of all grandparents with grandchildren under 16 help out with childcare

1 in 5 grandmothers provide at least 10 hours a week of childcare

Grandparents are pretty amazing! We’d love to hear from grandparents of Trunki tots – how often do you look after your grandchildren, how many grandchildren do you have and what activities do you do together?

And parents – what do your children’s grandparents do for your little ones and why are they special to your family? Tell us in the comments on this Facebook post. We’re going to send a bunch of flowers this Grandparents’ Day to one lovely grandparent and it could be yours (or you!) :)

(Comment before midday on Friday 30th Sep to be in with a chance of being selected to receive the flowers. We can only send to a UK address. Please keep an eye on your Facebook messages on Friday afternoon so we can reach you if you’re the winner and get the flowers sent in time for Sunday!).
