MISFITS Guitarist To Star In ‘Don’t Look In The Basement’ Remake!

The horror community has seen a lot of remakes over the years. One of the most popular topics currently circulating is the 2017 remake of Stephen King’s IT, set to hit theaters on September 8th. Another aspect of horror films that’s been changing is the use of already-famous actors. Many times, directors will even cast musicians. In fact, the legendary MISFITS guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein will be joining that list. Just announced, he is set to start in the remake of Don’t Look In The Basement, titled Death Ward 13! Seeing as he is already a horror punk band legend, Doyle will play the most terrifying character in the film. Being directed by Todd Nunes (All Through The House) and produced by The Readmond Company, Death Ward 13 is currently in the pre-production process. Of his breakthrough role, Doyle has said,

“I’m looking forward to starting my movie career with a starring role in Death Ward 13. It’s time to release the best on the big screen. Let the killing begin!”

Bruce Miyaki of Insane Management has also said,

“With Doyle’s horror punk background, we’ve always been looking for opportunities to have him cross over into film, but nothing has sparked his interest until now. Death Ward 13 is a great breakout film for Doyle – his fans are going to love it.”

Doyle also has a solo project, appropriately named DOYLE. In 2013, he released his album Abominator on Monsterman Records. He is currently talking with both Death Ward 13 producers and Monsterman co-founder Bruce Miyaki, in order to provide music for the film’s soundtrack.

As for the movie itself, it is inspired by S.F. Brownrigg’s Don’t Look In The Basement (1973), as well as Edgar Allen Poe‘s short story “The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether” (1845). Death Ward 13 is said to include several disturbing topics; botched lobotomies, necrophilia, sexual deviance, and violent psychopaths. Of including Doyle, director Nunes says,

“I’m excited to work with Doyle. Doyle will be portraying a ruthless killer called The Duke – a psychopath and the most twisted and terrifying character in the movie. I’m a big fan of Doyle and his music and always thought he would make a menacing horror movie villain. With his threatening looks and massive build, this man will scare the crap out of everyone. Get ready for a horrifying ride!”

This remake can be seen as a bloody love letter to Don’t Look In The Basement. The re-imagined version will hold the same terror of the original, but with more practical effects and gore that modern horror fanatics will love. As an added treat, Death Ward 13 will include nurses, freaks, and blood. The ending will also provide an updated, brutal twist.

Be sure to keep an out for more updates on the film as it progresses!
