Cape Coast Castle: The magnificent Atlantic Coast of Ghana is dotted with several forts and castles. These forts were made during the colonial period when various European powers ruled the country. These castles were made during 17th century and the Cape Coast Castle is one of the most impressive old forts among all. It was built by the Dutch empire in 1637 and in 1664 the British took control and made it into their colonial headquarters. For travellers, the monument offers an enticing site along with a museum which provides information about the history of Ghana and the slave-trade.



Kakum National Park: Located in the intense and tropical rainforest of southern Ghana, the Kakum National Park is home to more than 40 species of larger mammals including forest elephants, forest buffalo, civet and cats, forest squirrels, porcupines and tortoise. In addition, the park also presents a fantastic time for bird watchers as there are more than 250 species of birds. The main highlight of the park other than wildlife is a fascinating experience of strolling in the Canopy Walkway. The walkway is built 30 metres above ground and is over 350 metres in length. It provides breathtaking views of the wildlife and the unique plants of the forest.



Lake Volta (Volta Lake): Spending a day in the world’s largest man-made lake is a delightful proposition for most of the adventurous travellers. The Volta Lake Transport Company offers a passenger boat ride which covers the entire length of the lake and takes 24 hours from one way. If it is too much for you there are other smaller ferry services available also.  Aburi Botanical Gardens and Shai Nature Reserve are some of the other interesting places to visit in the region.
