There is no doubt that the City sedan definitely is one of the popular mid-size sedans of India and it has been crowd favourite for a long time. EXTERIOR CHANGE

The Honda City has been the bread and butter car for Honda for quite a long time and like we already mentioned Honda launched the new generation Car back in 2014 and its already been 2 years and perhaps this is the right time to launch the mid-life facelift variant of the sedan. Almost all the reports suggests that the facelift sedan will take its styling cues from the Honda Greiz sedan which is already available for sale in the markets of China.

The exterior change that you could notice may come in the form of new restyled headlamps, the front profile will also get restyled bumper as well along with a restyled grille. The grille might get lots of chrome elements to it which actually will make it appear bold as well. The sedan might also get a new set of wheels towards the side profile. The rear profile will also receive some changes as well which might come in the form of a new wrap around taillamps. The rear profile might also receive a new integrated boot spoiler as well.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT INSIDE THE CABIN

Obviously the main goal of the manufacturers is to make the car look premium and upmarket and keeping the present competition in mind Honda surely will bring some changes inside the cabin as well. Expect the facelift sedan to get Honda's latest infotainment system which actually will support both Google Android Auto as well as Apple Car play. The new infotainment system will be integrated with a new 15.7 cm toucshscreen unit which will get better graphics. The sedan will also receive an updated climate control system and Bluetooth telephony.

Apart from these changes the sedan will also receive updated upholstery and perhaps slightly better contoured front seats. Because this will be based on the same platform thus expect the interior space to remain almost same.

WHATS UNDER THE HOOD

This is just a facelift variant thus expect Honda to continue with the same 1.5 Liter i-VTEC petrol and the same 1.5 Liter i-DTEC diesel engine. Both these engines are expected to receive few improvements as well.

The 1.5 Liter petrol unit produces about 118 Bhp of peak power and 150 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a six speed manual transmission while there is also a CVT transmission on offer as well. The 1.5 Liter diesel unit on the other produces about 100 Bhp of peak power and 200 Nm of torque. This particular diesel mill is paired to a 6 speed manual transmission.

Keeping in mind all these changes Honda will definitely price the facelift sedan slightly more than the pre-facelift variant. Expect a price hike of INR.35, 000-50, 000 more than the existing variant.

According to the recent reports Honda will launch the new sedan in the month of January 2017 in India.

POSSIBLE RIVALS

The biggest rival of the Honda City facelift is definitely the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz sedan. The Ciaz sedan received tax benefits from the Government which actually has helped Maruti Suzuki to price it aggressively and also lower than the City. The Ciaz sedan is powered by a 1.4 Litre unit which is capable of producing about 91 Bhp of peak power and 130 Nm of torque. The diesel unit on the other hand is powered by the tried and tested 1.3 Litre unit which also gets SHVS technology, this unit produces about 88.5 Bhp of peak power and 200 Nm of torque.

Another big rival of the City sedan is also the upcoming new generation Verna sedan.

VERDICT

Most of the changes that the new City will get will be limited to cosmetic but we do expect some new features inside the cabin which might come in the form of a new infotainment system and better seats. While the rest of the interior features like sunroof, leather upholstery, optional all black cabin likely to be carried forward to the facelift variant as well.

We will definitely update you with more details as soon as the car is launched here in 2017.
