Texas is offering a variety of 2015 bird festivals, each of which is unique and provides excellent birding opportunities, speakers and festival activities.

February 4-7, 2015

Participants in the 2015 Laredo Birding Festival can select from 12 full-day trips that explore birding hotspots, including Laredo’s system of creeks, ranches, trails and parks. The birding field trips will be led by professional guides and members of the Monte Mucho Audubon Society.

The creek system in central and north Laredo meanders to the Rio Grande, providing habitat for White-collared Seedeaters and hundreds of other bird species, including the Ringed and Green Kingfishers, Green Jays, orioles, Olive Sparrow, varied waterfowl, Long-billed Thrashers, Pyrrhuloxia, Mexican mallards and others can be viewed in the natural areas.

February 6-8, 2015

This Texas bird festival is uniquely designed upping your birding game. This birding workshop called SparrowFest celebrates its 10th anniversary of focusing on sparrows with a weekend retreat in the Hill Country of Texas. Talented birding leaders will take participants to refuge tracts beyond the trails where “little brown birds” are found. Learn how to identify the subtle differences and behavior of wintering sparrows at this specialized Texas birding workshop.

April 24-27, 2015

The Balcones Songbird Festival features the endangered Golden-cheeked Warble, Black-capped Vireo and many other migratory bird species. The festival offers field trips guided by wildlife experts who can help participants see endangered songbirds, unique native plants and wildlife in the natural habitat of the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge.

April 24-26, 2015

The Fredericksburg Nature Center’s 2015 Wings Over the Hills Nature Festival has a special theme: “A Celebration of Natural Flight.” The nature festival is an opportunity for participants of all ages to experience the abundance of regional winged wildlife including endangered birds, bees, bats, butterflies, and dragonflies.
