Eating on the Bus

In order to promote cleanliness and safety on our school buses, this year (starting Monday, August 31) we are asking that students and adults not eat on the bus or drink anything other than water. Exceptions may be allowed on morning staff buses and on long distance busses (TEDA, fall camps, spring trips, Beijing, etc.). We recognize this is a change from the past, and we are working to have an afternoon snack time for our younger elementary students. ECC students already have an afternoon snack time. Thank you for your support in helping us keep our buses clean and all of our students safe.

TIS Response to the TEDA Explosion!

Needed: toys, Chinese children’s books, size AA batteries, battery-operated clamp-on lamps, and battery-operated fans

In response to the tragedy of the TEDA explosions, TIS has joined other international schools in the area to help displaced families. We have decided to assist in the collection and distribution of needed items for those who have lost their homes, jobs and/or possessions.

From this cooperative effort, TIS has been asked to donate toys (preferably new or possibly gently-used), Chinese children’s books, batteries, battery-operated clamp-on lamps, and battery-operated fans. Other schools will be providing different resources.

The High School, directed by the Student Council, has raised over 700 RMB this past week alone by hosting a bake sale each day.  Additionally, they have placed boxes around the school with “Donate for TEDA” signs posted on them. In order to better serve those families impacted by the explosions, the High School Student Council would like to invite you to help in this effort!

What can you do to help?

Have you or your child bring in items listed above and place in one of the donation boxes.

Volunteer to bake/cook foods to be sold at school in order to purchase needed items. (We will continue this aspect of the project following High School Fall Camp, resuming on Sept. 7thand concluding Sept. 18th, depending on number of volunteers to bake.)

Encourage your children to purchase a food item as a snack in support of the victims. (Bake sale Sept. 7th thru Sept. 18th)

Simply donate money in order to purchase needed items.

Please contact David Zovak at David.Zovak@ldichina.com for more information or to volunteer, donate or ask any questions.  Alternatively, you may contact Kim McElroy at kmcelroy@tiseagles.com.
