Upcoming Principals’ Coffee – November 9th

The upcoming Principals’ Coffee will be held at 10 a.m. on November 9th (next Wednesday).If you plan to attend and have questions for any of our principals, please submit your questions by Monday, November 7th. You can choose any of the channels below to send your questions.

Click in the ‘Community’ tab on our website homepage and fill out the Suggestion Form in the last tab “Suggestion Box” on the left.

If you have followed TIS on WeChat, simply send us a message in this TIS public account and we will get back to you! Please tell us which grade your child is in when you send your questions and suggestions on Wechat, so that we can pass on the questions to your child’s divisional principal.

Pick up a paper suggestion form on the table just outside the Admissions’ office. Fill it out and put it into the box.

We look forward to hearing your opinions and seeing you next Wednesday!

Special announcement:

We will have a special pre-selling of Christmas Charity Bazaar tickets on Wednesday, November 9th for parents who come for Principals’ Coffee. Official pre-selling will be on Monday, November 21st through Friday, December 2nd.

Cost: 10RMB/ticket.

CHRISTMAS CHARITY BAZAAR ~  SATURDAY, 3rd December

It’s that time of the year to start planning for our annual Christmas Charity Bazaar! This year, Christmas Charity Bazaar will be held on December 3rd at 10:00 a.m. Please click the poster for general information and how to purchase tickets.

We will have a special pre-selling of Christmas Bazaar tickets on Wednesday, November 9th for parents who come for Principals’ Coffee. Official pre-selling will be on Monday, November 21st through Friday, December 2nd.

If you know someone who would like to be a vendor, please share with them the following information. Or share this article on Wechat (in Chinese and English) – Christmas Bazaar Invitation.

Calling Vendors

Date & time: Saturday, December 3rd, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Location: TIS Cafeteria for food booths; TIS Gym for non-food booths

Cost:
Cafeteria: 150RMB/table (you will need to communicate with the school about the kinds of electronic device that you will bring, so that power can be arranged accordingly)
Gym: 125RMB/table

At least two tables per booth. Each booth comes with 2 free entrance tickets. Table costs will be used to help children in local orphanages. You can help children in need through your participation!

Products may include and are not limited to: foods, handicrafts, jewellry, hanging decorations and other decorations, clothing, books, stationery, make-up, toys, bags, and household items.

Deadline for vendors to sign up is Friday, November 18th. Please contact Head Principal Secretary Trancy Li to sign up for a booth: call 8371-0900×300 or send an email to trancy.li@tiseagles.com

TIS is now accepting applications for the Second Semester, 2016-2017. If you have other children who wish to apply or friends who are interested in applying to TIS, please see the following dates for upcoming admissions testing:

November 16th-17th Registration for testing 9 -11 a.m.

November 19th – Testing for grade 1-12

November 21st and 22th – Interviews for grade 1 -12

November 22th – Interviews for 3-5 year olds

December 6th -Testing and Interviews for grade 1-12

December 6th – Interviews for 3-5 year olds

Upcoming – Donuts with Dad

Calling all Dads!! We hope you can join us on Monday, November 14th from 9:30-10:45 for our special Donuts with Dads day! This event is just for dads or grandpas…if you are unable to attend, we invite you to write a special note to be read to your child on that day or even Skype in. More details will come home soon.

Knowledge Bowl 2016

The first half of Knowledge Bowl 2016 was held on November 2nd. Next Wednesday, November 9th, will be the final day of the competition to see who will win this year’s Middle School Knowledge Bowl! This House Competition involves students studying, and participating in a Quiz Bowl competition. The topic for this year’s competition is SPACE. Parents are invited to come and join the audience.

No Homework Night

On Wednesday, November 9th, middle school students will have a “no homework night”. The purpose of this night is to give students some time to visit and have fun with their families.

Half Day of School – November 16th

Middle school students will be released from school early on November 16th. Students will eat lunch at school, classes will dismiss at 1:00 p.m. and the busses will leave at 1:15 p.m.

Upcoming – Half Day – November 16th

Wednesday, November 16th is an extended half day for most of the school. Teachers will use the afternoon to engage in professional development for our WASC Action Plan. However, High School students will have a regular school day. They will be using the afternoon working in discussion groups on specific class topics and developing needed skills.

From the Counselor’s Corner

There will be an open house at the Fagerland’s home from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 6th with Cairn University. There will a short presentation followed by a Q&A session. Please RSVP with Mike McElroy at mmcelroy@tiseagles.com.

Dr. Paul Maurer, President of Montreat Collge, will be speaking on November 15 from 1-2 PM for all parents. The topic will be “Being a big fish in a small pond.” Here is the description of his talk: It is commonly assumed that going to an elite college or large public university are the best options for high school students. However, there is compelling evidence that there may be a better option: being a big fish in a small pond. This option offers a range of life-impacting benefits not seen at elite or large university settings.

MS Volleyball Tryouts start on Tuesday, November 8th

HS Basketball Tryouts start on Wednesday, November 9th

MS ISC Soccer Tournaments

Thursday through Saturday, November 3rd-5th

Tournament will be hosted by Wuhan Yangtze International School

TIS U14 Boys and Girls teams will participate.

On Thursday, November 3rd our TIS teams will travel on train G363 leaving Tianjin West train station at 8:00 a.m. Our athletes will be picked up from home by an athletics bus to be taken to the train station. Once the morning bus schedule is confirmed it will communicated to all players and parents.

On Saturday, November 5th our teams will take flight MU2455 from Wuhan and arriving in Beijing at 8:00 p.m.

A bus will bring the teams back to Tianjin and will drop athletes off at the normal athletic stops.

Thank you for your support during the Fine Arts Celebration!

PTO will be supplying a sweet treat each Wednesday in the Landing, and continue to sell a variety of refreshments at school programs. All proceeds will go toward the installation of a rock-climbing wall.

PTO at the Christmas Bazaar

PTO will be raising funds at the Christmas Bazaar on December 3rd to install a rock-climbing wall. Refreshments will be sold in the cafeteria. There will also be toys along with other Christmas goods being sold. Stop by to get a start on your Christmas shopping as well as support the fundraising project.

Volunteers Needed

PTO is in need of many volunteers to make the Christmas Bazaar a great success. If you are willing to work a 1-hour shift on the day of the bazaar please email amanda.walters@tiseagles.com
