Spambots
Wouldn't it be better to completely prevent the account creation of spambots, rather than merely preventing spambots from editing? QuestyCaptcha seems like a reasonable defense against the creation of spambot accounts as well as spamming itself, and new users won't need to confirm their email addresses either. Has QuestyCaptcha been tried before on this wiki?

Or perhaps the best thing to do would be using both QuestyCaptcha (instead of the current, less effective FancyCaptcha) and making users confirm their email address to allow editing, to put an end to all spambot activity? <span style="border:dashed blue 1px;padding:2px;">smtchahal</span>talk 11:00, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

:I agree with this great idea. --Reception123 (talk) 04:41, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

:::I don't really think we need to get into this. We'll have account usernames in the account creations, but we don't need to waste our time doing this. --Goldenburg111 (talk) 16:54, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

::The only way QuestyCaptcha is effective is if the corpus of questions being asked are novel (e.g. not used anywhere else). The moment the answer appears in a Google search for the question, the captcha is worthless. On the flip side, the answers need to be obvious enough so that a human knows what it is or where to look for it. Developing such questions is hard and not really worth my time. Looking through RecentChanges, it looks like spambots have not been able to successfully edit for quite some period of time, so I don't really see what the issue is. Spambots registering and triggering abuse filters doesn't really affect anything. --<span style="color:#808080">Skiz</span><span style="color:#395D7E">zerz</span> 15:10, 4 April 2014 (UTC)

Small question
Hello, with what can I help around here? --Reception123 (talk) 18:29, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

:There are three ways.

1. Now that you have the bureaucrat rights, watch The Test Wiki:Administrators to fulfill requests for adminship and bureaucrat.

2. Get involved in community discussions, and don't be afraid to speak out, and share your opinions.

3. Lastly, (but not necessarily), hang around the test wiki IRC Channel: #thetestwiki. Thanks for trying to help out! --Goldenburg111 (talk) 19:34, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

:Thanks for the help Goldenburg! --Reception123 (talk) 05:12, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

Question
Since I am currently on the end of becoming a sheriff. I would like to know about https://www.thetestwiki.org/wiki/User_talk:Pratyya_Ghosh, and the user himself, he is a good friend of mine, and I do want to know what happened, so I can be very careful when I become a sheriff. (BTW, I have read through the talk page, all I want to know is if this user is trustworthy here and his current state with the test wiki community. Thanks! --Goldenburg111 (talk) 21:09, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

:Why not ask him about it? I do not want to discuss a user behind his back, considering he likely does not come here anymore. As for what happened, that should be pretty obvious just by reading the talk page, no information was being withheld there. --<span style="color:#808080">Skiz</span><span style="color:#395D7E">zerz</span> 23:01, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Interesting question
Hello, I would just like to ask a question. How come Goldenburg has IP Block Exemption and on the IP Block Exemption page it says that admins have it by default? It's not for being mean or anything, I am just curious. --Reception123 (talk) 15:19, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

:I was just seeing if it can be added to an admin group, but will remove as soon as I reach a sheriff (aka, Kolega2357). --Goldenburg111 (talk) 20:31, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

::You can remove anything from your own account, you don't need a steward/sheriff to do it for you. --<span style="color:#808080">Skiz</span><span style="color:#395D7E">zerz</span> 22:48, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

:::Ok. Thanks for the clarification. --Reception123 (talk) 05:01, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Rename (for Example user only)
Hello, I was wondering if an extra function could be added. I think it would be good if adminsistrators or bureaucrats would have the right to test the Special:RenameUser on the Example user. Do you think that this could be possible? --Reception123 (talk) 19:09, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

:Maybe, but it rather defeats the point of testing RenameUser, as the most interesting things to test are the various scenarios of source and target usernames (e.g. does the source user have edits, is the target reserved for an SUL account, testing account usurpation where the target username currently exists but has no edits/only edits from years ago, etc.). Unlike CheckUser, where the interesting thing to test is the output given regardless of who you check, the parts of RenameUser that one would probably want to test out likely involve the use of quite a few different usernames, and it'd be a mess to code a restricted version of it for very little benefit. --<span style="color:#808080">Skiz</span><span style="color:#395D7E">zerz</span> 00:41, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Admin group unrevokable
THis is my second question. How come bureaucrats can not revoke administrator status anymore? --Reception123 (talk) 12:15, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

:They never could, and never will be able to. Bureaucrat isn't a "trusted group" here, it's another for-testing group. The semantic equivalent of bureaucrat from other (non-WMF) wikis is sheriff on this wiki. --<span style="color:#808080">Skiz</span><span style="color:#395D7E">zerz</span> 00:37, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

::Ok. Thank you for the help. --Reception123 (talk) 04:51, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

It's been months...
How has this wiki been going? Seems like the only active people here are the people who come here to request adminship, the people who take care of adminship, and a few others around. Probably can go for sheriffhood again soon if I stay active. --Goldenburg111 (talk) 13:45, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

:Hey Goldenburg, yes, I think that this wiki is lacking activity a bit, but it never had to much like the Test Orain wiki.

--Reception123 (talk) 15:12, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

:I just come back when I get an email saying there was an edit made.  That's my reason for activity. —Mysterytrey 15:41, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

::I'm back after looking through my browser and finding this place. Well, it's nice that the active gang is back. Oh, and I'll also catch up on the Test Orian Wiki. --Goldenburg111 (talk) 19:04, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Changing the blocking templates
Hello all!  I was considering doing some work to this wiki's blocking templates.  Such as adding an unblock template that is mentioned by this template, changing the Template:Usernameblock template so that users can request a rename via the unblock template instead of creating a new account, adding a steward action block template, and adding a note to Template:Checkuser block to contact the checkuser before unblocking.  Does anyone have any questions, suggestions, or objections before I do this?

Thanks!

:As long as all non-test edits are constructive, and sense there has been no talk against this, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to. In fact, it was something I was looking at doing... Can you leave a list of all templates you planned on changing on my talk page? NDKilla (talk) 23:06, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

"Yes check.svg" and "X mark.svg" seem to be gone
I can't find anything in the logs to show that they had ever existed, although they were used in the "Done" and "Not Done" templates. For the time being, I uploaded 500 px PNG images of them and redirected the SVG pages to the PNG images (as the wiki won't let me just upload SVG images). Anyone know what happened to them? --Zman9600 (talk) 02:45, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

: I'm wondering if Instant commons like globally broke :P https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Yes_check.svg the file exists here and I'm not sure it was ever uploaded here. I noticed on Orain TestWiki that the same issue exists (broke Done templates. NDKilla (talk) 19:12, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

:: It looks like Instant Commons was broke by a switch to HTTPS, as MediaWiki doesn't follow redirects for it due to security: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T102566 --Zman9600 (talk) 21:26, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

::: TheTestWiki has always used HTTPS, so that's not what is going on. I'm not actually sure why it's broken but I'm looking into it. --<span style="color:#808080">Skiz</span><span style="color:#395D7E">zerz</span> 05:15, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

::: Should be fixed now, I think it's because SVG uploads were disabled so it didn't allow for pulling SVGs from commons either, but not 100% sure on that. Enabled svg uploads and ran a whole bunch of other cleanup scripts and it looks good now --<span style="color:#808080">Skiz</span><span style="color:#395D7E">zerz</span> 05:49, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

:::: So far as I can see, we still have a bunch of broken images. Not sure what's going on. Is it the same for anyone else? --Zman9600 (talk) 16:34, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

::::: Well it was fixed for 10 minutes or so, will look more into it later; in the meantime please don't re-upload all of that as it makes me trying to investigate what is going on more difficult (it's possible I was still seeing cached versions of those old files, for instance, and thinking that the new stuff was working). --<span style="color:#808080">Skiz</span><span style="color:#395D7E">zerz</span> 18:21, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

Sigh, and fixed again. Basically it's a bug in either the system-provided libcurl or libcares so I compiled my own version of libcurl, but php somehow managed to figure out a way to revert to using the system one again. --<span style="color:#808080">Skiz</span><span style="color:#395D7E">zerz</span> 22:15, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Abuse filter 10 problem
While I am creating the sandbox, abuse filter 10 blocks my edits. It said it contains external links, but its not. It just contains the sandbox template. Thanks, Pokefan95 (talk) 10:02, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

Nobots
I just had an extensive look at the RC (sorry Skizzerz, I probably gave your server's activity logs a nervous breakdown) and couldn't find a single edit made by a bot here, as far back as I could go, back to 6 Dec 2015. Not that far back, I know, but my search criteria was for 720 days (2 years) and 10,000 edits worth. (Yeah, I know Skizzerz, sorry 'bout that). I was a little disappointed to not find a single active bot here at present. I was hoping to learn something new from a new generation of TTW users. If anyone wants to, you're most welcome to make use of the code from my old <span class="plainlinks">Pywikipediabot</span>-based AbotTOIR bot. Dust it off, take it through the BRfA process, (after having read the Bot policy first), and have a go with it. I've forgotten most of what I did to get that thing working in the first place, but if I can be of any help, drop me a line on my talk page, and I'll be along at some time to lend a hand. I can't promise much, but I do encourage experimentation. <font color="#703931">—</font> <font color="#703931">Augur</font><font size="4" color="#723a32">✐</font><font size="4" color="#723a32">⌕</font> 12:13, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
