PUPILS have been evacuated and sent home after a car smashed into the wall of a primary school.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene in Everton, Merseyside, after the motor ploughed into The Beacon Primary School at around 8.30am today.

No pupils are believed to have been injured nor were in the area of the crash with “all persons accounted for”.

Cops said that the female driver of the car was being assessed at the scene on Heyworth Street.

A passenger in the car was confirmed to have sustained a minor injury.

No other injuries were reported and no children were present in the area of the collision, said cops.

Police confirmed that the school will be closed for the rest of the day and road closures are in place.

Meanwhile, the building will now be assessed for any structural damage.

Merseyside Police said in a full statement: “We can confirm that emergency services are in Everton following a road traffic collision at a school this morning, Monday 22 April.

“At around 8.30am, reports were received of a car in collision with The Beacon Primary School in Heyworth Street, Everton.

“The female driver of the car is being assessed at the scene. A passenger in the car sustained a minor injury.

“No other injuries were reported and no children were present in the area of the collision.

“The building will be assessed for any structural damage.

“The school will be closed for the rest of the day and road closures are in place. Please avoid the area.”

Mereyside Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene.

A statement read: “Crews were alerted at 08.34 and on scene at 08.39, with two fire engines and the search and rescue team attending.

“This was a road traffic collision (RTC) involving one vehicle into a school building. No persons were trapped, two occupants of the vehicle are in the care of North West Ambulance Service.

“Merseyside Police also attended and a cordon around the building was put in place.

“Fire Service personnel made the scene and vehicle safe, and the Search and Rescue team erected temporary shoring to the affected area.

“Utilities to the affected building have been isolated and a structural engineer requested.

“A full roll call at the school was completed with all persons accounted for.

“The scene was handed over to Merseyside Police and crews left the scene at 09.32.”
