Sometimes you don’t need words to get an emotion across and this video created by the J9 Foundation – Joost van der Westhuizen’s foundation which was set up to help raise awareness and assist with motor neuron disease research – is testament of that.
The clip was first published in 2015 with the filmmaker describing it as follows:
“A short tribute film of one of the greatest Scrum-Halves ever to play Rugby Union. I made this film to try and help raise awareness to the destructive degenerative disease ALS-MND. Joost was diagnosed with a form of Motor Neuron Disease in 2010 and since his diagnosis formed the J9 Foundation to help sufferers of MND.”
Van der Westhuizen passed away on Monday after a five-year battle with illness.
