Monday, January 15 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day – the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service. The holiday was first observed in 1986, marking the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Not everyone participates in the MLK Day of Service, but engagement has grown tremendously over the last few years. The day gives us an opportunity to give back to organizations and programs in our neighborhoods, from tutoring children to visiting senior centers or delivering meals and cleaning up local parks.
If you’re available on January 15, there are many local programs that address important issues in our community. To get you started, here are a few volunteer opportunities in San Francisco.
