The year has flown by, but not without leaving some major fashion statements in its wake. While many of our tried-and-true favorites continued, we also saw an abundance of new and fresh sartorial ideas. We can’t wait to see what the fashion world has in store for 2016, but plenty of 2015’s trends will likely continue, in new and modern iterations. Here are our top ten favorite trends from the past twelve months:
1. CULOTTES
As Chrissy Teigen and Victoria Beckham demonstrate, these bottoms work equally well in hot and cold weather. If you’re still shying away from this style, read up on our tips here.
2. BLAZER VESTS
Dressed up like Olivia Palermo or dressed down like Kendall Jenner, sleeveless blazers are a trend we can fully get behind. Check out this effortless outfit for some inspiration.
3. BACKPACKS
We’re still drooling over this lust list, and we’re willing to bet that Jessica Alba and Rihanna will both be adding more backpack styles to their collection in the coming year.
4. A-LINE SKIRTS
Button-down A-line skirts are a schoolgirl-chic look that Alexa Chung and Taylor Swift rocked just as well in 2015 as they would have in the seventies. Shop some of our favorites in this post.
5. CUTOUTS
Arguably the quickest way to add some serious va-va-voom to an outfit, cutouts were embraced by loads of celebrities including Ciara and Gwyneth Paltrow. The best part? There are plenty under $100.
6. SHEER DETAILS
As seen on our very own Marjorie Harvey and Kerry Washington, sheer panels and details add a heavy dose of intrigue to any ensemble.
7. VOLUME
Ciara and Michelle Obama both ignored the “less is more rule,” and for good reason. Pairing voluminous fabric with more fitted and structured tops keeps this look from overwhelming your frame.
8. METALLIC ACCESSORIES
We love metallic shoes, but would be remiss not to mention our appreciation of metallic bags as well. Emma Roberts and Hilary Duff demonstrate that the hue is actually a fabulous neutral.
9. ATHLEISURE
This movement was strongly influenced by Beyonce’s collaboration with Topshop, but plenty of other celebs including Gigi Hadid and Nicky Hilton welcomed it with open arms. Since the athleisure trend is so comfortable, we’re pretty sure it’ll take us right into the comforting arms of 2016.
10. FRINGE
While certainly not new (hello, ’70s-inspired fashion), we couldn’t get enough fringe this year. Whether on a skirt like Kim Kardashian, booties like Kate Moss, or a bag like Olivia Wilde, fringe accessories and clothes are a much easier commitment than cutting actual fringe on our faces.
