SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana wrestling team will get its 2016-17 campaign underway at the Daktronics Open in Brookings, S.D. on Sunday, Nov. 6. The meet is set to begin at 9 a.m. and will run all day. The Vikings have competed in the Daktronics Open every year since 2008.

The Vikings will be put to the test at the Daktronics Open with eight of the 14 teams competing being Division I competitors. Division I teams competing include Nebraska, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Arizona State, Appalachian State, Iowa State, Minnesota and Missouri.

Augustana will bring 17 wrestlers to the Open, led by junior Aero Amo, who went 33-3 with 15 pins at 184 pounds. Amo earned first-team All-NSIC honors last season after winning the NCAA Super Region 3 Championship and was the lone Viking to qualify for Nationals.

The Vikings return eight starters and 17 letterwinners off of last season’s team. Joining Amo as Augustana’s top returners will be sophomore Colin Ayers and senior Michael Lowman.

Ayers went 18-8 at 149 pounds and Lowman went 23-10 at 285 pounds. Lowman qualified for Nationals during the 2015 season.

The Vikings will compete next Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Dakota Wesleyan Open in Mitchell, S.D. The meet will begin at 9 a.m. and will run all day.
