Perth isn’t short of a brewery; it’s inner-city brewing scene is buzzing right now! In the heart of Subiaco’s urban landscape, you’ll find newcomer Golden West Brewing Co. Not just a place to grab a meal; it’s a cool hangout where the vibes are as delicious as the food and brews. So, next time you see a Hay Street sign saying “Beer Here”, be sure to follow it.

We stumbled upon this spot on a sunny afternoon, after a wander down leafy Rokeby Road. The new spot has brought back an old Perth beverage company, Golden West Aerated Water Company. Once making soft drinks in the 1890’s, in the 1960’s the company was bought by Coca-Cola and renamed Gest, later became Kirk’s. The courtyard is perfect for basking in the sun, plus it’s family friendly.

Golden West is a space where old-school brewing meets modern flair, and craft beer is made accessible. Why not kick back with a flight of tasters, from hazy pale ale, an Aussie lager, west coast IPA, or maybe a limited release, guest beer, an India pale ale and an award-winning Bourbon Vannilla porter. For sour beer lovers, like Mr H, a Sour Mango Peach beer is a winner. Tinnies are available too. Non-beer drinkers have plenty of choice with Custard & Co ginger beer, Roleystone Brewing Co cider, cocktails, wine and more.

Golden West Brewing Co Menu

Golden West’s menu is not full of your run of the mill pub grub. Every bite is an adventure, with Indian-South Asian inspired dishes to share. The interesting, but laid-back lunch fayre makes for a refreshing twist at a brewery, and it’s all about keeping it cool, tasty and inclusive. There’s a decent amount of gluten free options, and a kid’s menu is also available.

The five spiced pork belly couldn’t have been any crisper! I loved this. Served with a chilli caramel sauce, plus apple and herb salad (GF)

The exposed brick walls and industrial feel, plus picnic tables and colourful stools at Golden West Brewing Co creates a low-key setting that’s far from pretentious, even being a stone’s throw from Rokeby Road. Whether you’re there to meet friends in the courtyard over a bevvy or devour a meal paired with excellent craft beer, it’s the kind of place that you’ll want to return to.

If you’re cruising around Subi, looking for a place that’s got chill West Aussie vibes by the bucket load, and an interesting menu, Golden West Brewing Co is the spot. Be sure to slide in and kick back with a pint and plate, or three.
