Brown Street Grill, a new-ish eatery by Chef Stewart Laws is found deep in East Perth, at the Bright Tank Brewing Co. It recently celebrated its first anniversary, as did I, with a certain Mr H. Both of us love a mouthwatering steak, and Mr H loves a craft beer, so a celebratory lunch at this trendy spot made very good sense!
Found between Claisebrook Train Station and Claisebrook Cove, Bright Tank Brewing Co is a walkable distance to Optus Stadium. This makes the brew pub a great pre-event meet-up spot. On the day we were lunching there, many of the purple army had that exact idea.
If you love a brew, you can’t get any closer to the action than at Bright Tank Brewing Co. You are literally sitting next to the beer tanks! The industrial dining room is dominated by a super long high communal table. If you prefer not to be that close to your fellow diners, best to mention that when booking. There was a one chair gap between us and the people on either side, so it didn’t feel too people-y to me.
And while you sip on a bevvy or two, you can spy on the chefs cooking up a storm in the open kitchen. There’s some serious kit in there. A Mesiano wood fired pizza oven, plus a custom built charcoal grill from JAGRD.
I first met Chef Stewart at the Gascoyne Food Festival, where he was cooking with fire in the heart of Carnarvon.
It’s so great to see Stewart is continuing his passion of bringing our incredible West Aussie produce to the people of Perth. The produce in his kitchen is cooked simply over flames and coals, letting the flavours sing.
Mr H and I shared:
Achiote beef skewers, roja picante and a deliciously different green tomato salsa.
Perfectly pink 300gm grass fed sirloin, with glazed mushrooms and a rich port jus
Drool-worthy Wagyu fat potatoes, speck, scallions and sour cream.
And an alleppo pepper crusted organic lamb, ajvar, garlic labne, preserved lemon gremolata
As you can imagine, the meats were all perfectly cooked and rested. I just couldn’t resist finishing on a sweet note. The cheesecake was spot on.
Wood baked basque cheesecake, px cream, roasted fruits
If you love beer, be sure to grab a tasting paddle too
The buzzing atmosphere, plus smoke and flame cooked dishes will definitely have us returning for more at Brown Street Grill. We had a memorable lunch enjoying the mouth-watering menu and friendly service. If you’re looking for a place to celebrate, or simply to enjoy an excellent feed, I highly recommend Brown Street Grill.
