thebestplltheories:

I am praying at least the main ones get answered by the end of 720! If the minor questions aren’t answered explicitly, I just hope that the answers we do get help us to fill in the blanks ourselves.

Who is Uber A (AD)?

Who killed Charlotte? Why isn’t Uber A attacking THAT person? Why attack the liars over this?

We know Uber A became A to avenge Charlotte’s death. Why is Charlotte’s death so important to this person? What was their relationship?

Who is Mary’s second child?

Spencer Hastings! Or should I say - Spencer Drake. Just like Mary put Charlotte up for adoption with Jessica DiLaurentis, Mary put Spencer for adoption, this time with Spencer’s biological father (Peter).

Who knows about this? Only Peter, Veronica, Mary and Jessica? How did they manage to keep this a secret for so long? And why was this a secret?

“Lord help the mister who comes between me and my sister” - said CeCe. Is this about herself and her sister Spencer? Or Alison, her cousin, but she thought she was her sister? And who is this mister? What did they do to come between CeCe and this other person?

What the HELL happened the night of the lodge fire? Too many people all with different agendas.

Read this post here that I wrote. It clarifies absolutely everything about that night. It is not as simple as they made it out to be in 610, everyone that was present had a different plan that night!

Rollins wanted to avenge Charlotte’s death. He did this through marrying Ali, to take all her money. However, why was he already seducing Ali before Charlotte had even died?

Why did Rollins even want to avenge Charlotte’s death? Did the two fall in love? When?

Did Charlotte ever get truly better? She gave Eliza dolls of the girls. Was this her saying “I don’t need them anymore” or was this her saying “the game has only just begun?”

Mona claims she was A because the girls stole Hanna from her, yet it was precisely her text messages as A that united the girls. There’s a contradiction here.

Read this marvellous post to see that it’s not exactly a contradiction like we all think. Essentially, not only did the girls allow Alison to bully Mona, but the discovery of Ali’s body in the pilot brought the girls back to Rosewood, and the thought of this scared Mona. Therefore, she began texting them as A in order to scare them and keep them apart. This backfired, and she lost Hanna as a result of becoming A.

Why are we only hearing of Mary Drake six seasons later? Where has she been all this time and why has she come back now?

Mary came back because “I found out she [Jessica] is dead”.
Why was she happy her sister is dead?
“I was born first and she was born jealous”.
What is going on here?

Who killed Jessica, and why?

Who killed Sara Harvey, and why?

Why did Jenna and Sara team up? To do what?

“I’m not scared of Jenna” said Emily. “I’m not talking about Jenna”, replied Sara. Who was Sara hinting to Emily, that is dangerous?

Who was buried first: Alison or Bethany?

Bethany was buried after Alison because Melissa pushed Bethany in an already caved grave, which Jessica caved for Alison first.

Why was Noel helping Charlotte in the dollhouse?

Jenna says she was friends with Charlotte and met her for the first time at the hospital, however pre-time jump, they clearly were very big enemies. Plot hole?

What was Grunwald’s bad vision she has of the girls (7A)?

If Rollins was getting involved romantically with Alison, why was he also romantically with Charlotte?

Eliza in 703 confirmed they were together as she saw them kissing. Why?

Everything about Bethany Young. Mainly, how was she identified as Alison and why was she wearing an Alison bracelet when her body was found?

Did Alison know Bethany? Were those cards real in 513 or did CeCe make them up? Did Alison lure Bethany to Rosewood, or not?

Which boy pulled a gun on Ali as per the flashback in 411? Is this important or irrelevant?

Why was Wren colouring in a red coat?

Is there a reason Eddie recognised Aria at Radley, or was that just a friendly coincidence?

“We’re not having the same problems again, are we Eddie?” said Wren. Then Eddie said “from the minute that guy got here, it wasn’t for the right reasons”. What is going on between Wren and Eddie?

“We have a problem, you take care of your end and I’ll take care of my end” said Wren last time we saw him. Who was he talking to and what was this problem?

CeCe contacted Wren asking to visit Mona. Why was Wren authorising these visits? Surely he began to get suspicious. It’s almost like Wren contributed to the birth of Big A.

Who was in Jason’s house in season 2? Remember we saw a shadow through the window and blood in the trashcan.

Who was Jessica hiding at Aunt Carol’s house - remember how Jason heard noises from inside.

Mary was in the house. Mary had just learned that Charles is “dead” and was begging Jessica to tell her why. Jessica replied “you gave birth, but he was my son”, so Jessica was hiding the fact that Charles transitioned from Mary.

Are they ever going to address the fact that Rollins was Mona’s doctor in Radley too? Is this significant or not?

This late into the series… we can assume insignificant. It was probably the writers reusing names to save production costs.

Who attacked Ali at Halloween in 213?

(Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this, but we can’t be certain it was Lucas because remember at the end of the episode we saw someone else hidden in the baby mask.)

Marlene tweeted during 6B that there might be more to the Maya storyline. Waiting for this to come true to see what it’s about.

What was it that “Maya Knew”?
Maya knew that Nate is back in town.

Where is Eddie Lamb? We last saw him delivering a drawing made by Bethany - next day he’s gone.

Why was Bethany drawing Jessica in such a disgusting way? Who was the boy that the “monster-like” figure was carrying, and to where? Why did Bethany draw Jessica with LIAR written all over her?

Who was the man and woman in the doll shop in 2x24 that wanted to hurt Ali, that “Seth-baby” was talking about? Mary and Rollins?

If CeCe was a patient at Radley, why did she need a visitor’s pass to see Mona?

Although not confirmed in the show itself, the only thing I can think of is that Charlotte lied: she did NOT go back to Radley as Charlotte, after Charles’ funeral. She lied to great a sad story for herself so that the girls would forgive her for being A. I won’t cross this off the list until confirmed in the show, however.

Why were members of the NAT club slowing being killed? Why has this storyline been dropped!?

Did CeCe know she was adopted?

She must have known, since she chose the name CeCe DRAKE, obviously using her mother’s name.

Why did Sara Harvey help CeCe as Red Coat and Black Widow?

Why was Sara staying in CeCe’s old room at The Radley hotel? What’s up with the hole in the wall; what was she looking for?

Probably Mary’s Radley file, because we learnt in 620 that the file was down there. However, why did Sara want this? Awaiting confirmation.

In 319 CeCe said she did indeed speak to Melissa that night, and Jason says he saw them too. Then why did Charlotte change her story in 610 and say that she didn’t speak to Melissa?

Did Charlotte, when she was A, love Ali? Or did she hate her>

I think it’s safe to assume she did love Ali, because Charlotte was protecting her particularly evident in kidnapping Mona. Mona was building an army against Ali and Mona was even accusing Ali of being A too.

If Charlotte loved Ali, why the hell did she put her in jail!?

Who was the person in the baseball cap who was talking to Melissa in 5B, that Spencer caught on her camera?

Why were Jenna and Shana acting weird in 4A?

Marlene confirmed on Twitter than Jenna knew Alison was alive, and she felt scared holding that information, because A was going to come after her to find her.

Why was Ali in Spencer’s backyard in 507, dressed in a hoody, looking suspicious?

Why even tell us that Andrew is adopted?

To make us think he was Charles. Turns out, Spencer is Mary’s daughter. Thank god!

Why did Lucas and Jenna go to prom together? What’s going on there? Are they together?

Why did Leslie have so many pairs of glasses in 6A?

Is there a relationship between Leslie’s glasses and the glasses that AD was wearing as part of their bellhop disguise in 6B?

How was CeCe listed as Prom Queen if she didn’t even go to the school? Marlene, don’t tell me she just hacked the school’s system.

Wilden was paid off by Jessica to keep quiet about what Charlotte did to Ali. Surely Wilden put two and two together and worked out Charlotte “killed” Ali, because why else would he be paid to shut up on the night a murder took place. So, “rest assured, I will find out what happened that summer”… he already knew!? Plot hole?

The Sydney Driscol storyline went absolutely no where. Remember how they were making us think she is Jenna’s twin/sister? Why?

Red herring. To expand Jenna’s storyline.

Who was the fourth person to the picnic with Jenna, Sydney and Mona? What were they discussing?

What is Ali’s sexuality? Is it safe to assume bisexual because of her interest in Emily but marriage to Archer?

What was Rhys Matthews’ purpose in the show? They went through a lot of effort to cast a Jason-look-alike and within 2 episodes he was totally gone.

Who put the “Chandelier’s Rituals, sister launched lair, A ruler’s list chained” note in Mona’s room? This is an anagram to Charles DiLaurentis, BUT, do the individual words have meaning too? Sister launched lair is intriguing, given we know there’s a twin sister now.

“You know me Spencer, you killed me” and the dirt in Spencer’s bed, too. Why did CeCe think Spencer killed Bethany?

There was a continual theme of A loving Aria’s pink hair.

Charlotte wanted Aria’s pink hair because that’s how Jason liked it.

How the hell did CeCe get the vials of blood in Spencer’s bag in London? This just screams Wren to me.

Why did Mona use the British spelling: “Nosey Bitches Die”? No wonder Wren is A theories were popular back then! (and still are)

Who burnt Cyrus and why? What even happened to Cyrus? What was his purpose on the show?

The Paul Varjack storyline makes no sense. Who was it? Why did they use that fake name? Something about Holly and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, too? I just don’t get any of it.

“One of you has been touched by the one Alison feared the most”. Who is this about?

Aria and CeCe literally just touched 30 seconds ago when Aria was trying to pull CeCe up from falling off the high-ledge. The camera even deliberately zoomed in to Aria and CeCe’s grip.

Ghost girl in Hanna’s house in 313 needs to be explained. Supernatural stuff in PLL is unacceptable.

Marlene has actually said this: I think that will play out, definitely by the time the series ends there will be an answer to that ghost girl.

There are 10 episodes left, I’m holding you to this Marlene!!

Is there a reason, or current story-line application of Alison’s twin story she told in 212? Mary and Jessica? Did one stab the other and send her to a mental asylum; Radley, like in her story?

Was the Radley car outside the DiLaurentis home in 2x12 for Mary?

Who killed Mrs. Potter and why? That’s so damn random if it was Mona.

Jason was offering $50,000 for Ali’s remains. We saw him writing this check, and then on the phone to Wilden said “meet me in the parking lot in 15 minutes”. Did Wilden have Ali’s remains?

How did Emily get to Ali’s grave that night? Was that CeCe or Mona responsible for the stunt that night? Why?

CeCe said in 610 that “mum didn’t know CeCe was Charlotte until the day we left for Cape May”. I don’t believe that Jessica couldn’t put two and two together; that one of Ali’s friends is using the same name (Drake) as her twin sister. Jessica practically allowed incest?

Marlene said Ian did commit suicide. Why?

The answer is rather intricate, which can be read here in great detail. However to summarise it, Ian was about to serve jail time as a rapist, kidnapper, child pornographer and attempted manslaughter (of Spencer). As if that wasn’t bad enough, he therefore wouldn’t be able to raise his baby that Melissa was pregnant with. He couldn’t just run away either, because his injuries from the rope in the bell tower would have been incredibly painful, and he can’t go to a hospital or else he would be turning himself in. Hence, things weren’t going as good as first met the eye, and so he killed himself.

What was Peter and Jessica’s “understanding” from 424?

Peter: the police are asking pointed questions about Spencer. Do we still have an understanding?
Clearly, Peter was afraid that the truth about Spencer may come to light that night at the police station amongst all the Spencer-related questions. He wanted to make sure Jessica still agreed to keep the secret on the down-low.

What was in those boxes in 525 that made Peter Hastings get nervous especially when Ezra said “your secrets are in there too”?

That Spencer is a Drake, most likely. Not confirmed in the show, but what else could it be? It makes sense: Radley files… Mary was a patient there… the truth about Spencer could have come out.

Aria, Hanna, Spencer and Emily never received Ali-masks from Ali, yet Hector said that “Ali wanted masks made for all her friends”. Why did Ali want masks for people, and for who?

Note - it’s odd how the only people who have been seen with this Ali mask are:
- Mona, on the Halloween train.
- Red Coat in 410
- Black Widow in 401.
Why is it that the ENEMY has these Ali masks? Are these people Ali’s friends that Hector was referring to? Is Ali AD?

Why did Melissa have a horse-riding helmet at the stable Jessica took Bethany to? Why was Melissa going there?

Who was the mysterious blonde with Mona, watching Hanna through the glass whilst she was getting a hair makeover in 5A?

What did Aria whisper to Mona in the movie theatre in 511 that made her so upset?

“You’re not welcome in this family. My dad still hates you for what you did to me. Don’t get too comfortable with Mike”. Although not explicitly stated that those are the exact words, if you re-watch, we know it is something along those lines. Mona says to Aria “you know right where to insert the knife and twist it”, implying it was something nasty. Then she says “you’re right” (implying she agreed with what Aria said) - “your dad should hate me after all the things I’ve done to you”. This was Aria’s attempt to break up Mike and Mona, because Aria felt she was too dangerous for her brother.

Who hit Toby over the head at the lodge fire in 323?

Jenna. A few episodes later in 4A, she said to Emily “tell Toby I never meant to hurt him”. More details as to why she did this, here.

Who lit the fire?

Wilden lit the fire - NOT Shana! In depth analysis here.

What was Melissa’s role that night of the lodge fire?

In 404, Melissa told Spencer that she sent Jenna and Shana to watch over Spencer; to find out if she was going to meet Alison. Melissa wanted to know if Alison is alive or not, as she wanted to clear her guilty conscience for burying a girl in a yellow top.

More details here.

Why did Charlotte push Jenna in the lake in 409?

Jenna held the precious information that Alison is alive, as confirmed by Marlene on Twitter the night of 610. Charlotte was scared that Jenna would tell people this, and needed to keep her quiet in order to bring Ali home safely. (If the whole town knew Ali is alive, Ali may run away and never come home.)

In 7A we learn that Jenna met Charlotte at the hospital and they instantly became friends. Are the writers forgetting that in 4A, right after Jenna is pushed in the lake by Charlotte, Shana revealed to Spencer that Jenna is afraid of Charlotte? So, they didn’t meet for the first time at the hospital?

Who pushed the girl down the stairs at the frat party?

Noel Khan!

What Alison do to get CeCe kicked out of college?

We now know that Ali didn’t push the girl down the stairs and blame CeCe for that. It was Noel. So what did Ali do to CeCe?

What’s up with the Charlotte/Jenna/Noel awkward stares in 309?

Jenna and Noel were working in 7A to avenge Charlotte’s death. Clearly, the three are friends.

Why did Ali say that combined, the girls know enough to piece together what really happened to her that night? Amongst them, there’s no way in hell they could’ve known about Charlotte let alone Charlotte hitting Ali, Jessica burying Ali and then Grunwald pulling her out!

Why did Ali react with shock (and to an extent, sadly) to seeing the painting at the funeral-arrangement place in 503?

We already have this answer but I’m including it here because I’ve seen lots of people ask it: Cyrus also had this painting in his basement where he physically assaulted her, and so seeing this painting brought back those memories with Cyrus. This was confirmed in a flashback which clearly showed Cyrus having this same painting as we saw in 503.

Who was CeCe giving a bunch of flowers to in the A ending scene of 523?

Probably Noel, because he was in the dollhouse with her.

Who was that at the end of 401 wearing the burnt Alison mask from the lodge fire?

Sara Harvey. She was at the lodge fire in 324, and got burnt in her red coat whilst helping CeCe distract the girls by making them think they are seeing Alison. As we saw in 401, Toby found Sara’s red coat burnt and destroyed. Hence, Sara moved onto the Black Veil costume at Wilden’s funeral (under CeCe’s orders to ensure that Wilden really is dead). She was seen at the end still wearing her burnt Ali mask but in her new costume instead of the red coat.

In 102 Jenna says “send text now”, making us think she is A, but she’s not?

Must be her personalised technology to assist her in texting because she has no vision. No big deal at all.

Why was Noel pouring blood over Spencer in the dollhouse?

Under Charlotte’s orders, Noel did this because Charlotte believed Spencer had killed Bethany. (Hence my theory that Bethany is also a Drake sibling; why else would Charlotte care so much for Bethany’s death?) Of course, we still need confirmation as to why Noel was helping Charlotte, but this answer is still good.

Charlotte thought that Spencer killed Bethany because that flashback between Charlotte and Melissa really did happen, despite Charlotte lying saying it didn’t (to protect herself). Melissa told Charlotte that she thinks Spencer killed Alison, because she saw them fighting and walking away with the shovel. Charlotte was smarter than to believe this, because she had just hit Alison with the rock five minutes earlier, so she instinctively knew that it was Bethany that Melissa was talking about, not Alison (remember, Charlotte and Bethany escaped Radley together that night, so when she heard that a girl in a yellow top was killed by Spencer, she assumed Bethany). This explains why Spencer was arrested for Bethany’s murder in 512, because CeCe set her up in 424 at the police station with Holbrook; “I know who killed that girl… the one you thought was Alison DiLaurentis”.

Who killed Wilden and why?

Charlotte killed Wilden because he would never allow Alison to come home alive, as he accepted bribe money from Jessica to keep quiet on who ‘killed’ Alison (Charlotte by throwing the rock). He was a really dirty cop and Wilden would need to kill Alison to save his own ass.

Who killed Garret and why?

Although not explicitly said in the show, Marlene has confirmed that Wilden killed Garret because he knew what Wilden did that night: accept bribe money to lie about what happened to Alison. (Confirmed by Marlene that Wilden is his killer.)

Who was wearing the Alison mask on the Halloween train?

Mona. She said to Hanna “to think we were this close to our first kiss.”

Who were the Queen of Hearts on the Halloween train?

Melissa confirmed in 404 that Wilden was the one who tried to kill Spencer, whilst Melissa had the same costume: she was there to spy on Wilden, to protect Spencer.

Why did Wilden want to hurt Spencer on the Halloween train? Why physically attack her?

Melissa said in 404 that Wilden was taking orders from someone to be on the train. Who was giving these orders? This would be our answer to this question.

UPDATE: this person must have been Garret. Garret was giving orders to Wilden to attack Spencer because Garret knew that Spencer was coming after him to ask him questions as to what he knows about that night. Garret knew that if Spencer comes and asks him those questions, he needs to “disappear”. Wilden did not want to take these orders anymore, and so he killed Garret. The other main reason Wilden killed Garret was because Wilden knew that Garret knew that he accepted Jessica’s money that night (see question 96).

Why did Eddie Lamb recognise Aria at Radley?

Because Aria was visiting Spencer in Radley in 3B. He had probably seen her face as she was signing in to see Spencer.

Who was CeCe talking to on the phone in 411? “Where are you? I sure as hell am not going back to Rosewood”.

Most likely Ali, as we know Ali was asking for Charlotte’s help, as well as she was looking for Ali hence the “where are you”.

Why did Ali write on the table in prison “Mona told everything”. What is “everything” and who was the intended audience of this message?

When Jessica told Holbrook that she is certain Alison is in that grave, was she doing this to protect herself or Alison?

Did Mary or Jessica bury Alison?

Who was the intended recipient of Jessica’s email that read “I can’t protect you anymore?”

Why and to whom was Melissa mouthing “do it, just do it” in 510?

Why was Bethany drawing Jessica as a devil?

Why did Ali tell Spencer in 323 that “you didn’t even know me when you knew me?” Twin theory?

How does Garrett know who took the body, and how does he know “it’s not over” in 301? To know it’s not over is already shocking, but that therefore means he would’ve had to have known about Mona’s original game. How?

Who sent Emily the text in 301 reading “I bet you remember me”? Doesn’t sound like Charlotte, given they had never met at this point.

Who called Emily’s phone the night she was at Ali’s grave?

Charlotte, to provide more evidence that the girls were there that night.

Why was Peter Hastings so determined to shut down Radley?

Why didn’t Mona tell the girls that Ali is alive all this time? Why keep that a secret?
