OCL 12 kickstarts your MMA weekend this Friday night on Combat Sports Now:
Your MMA weekend kick starts this Friday in Newark, OH (near Columbus) as Ohio Combat League returns for its second doubleheader weekend in three months—beginning with OCL 12 from Ohio Events Center at Cherry Valley Hotel.
This card takes place about two months following OCL 11, which saw 12 of its 15 fights (80 percent stoppage rate) end without the judges deciding a winner.
As usual, Combat Sports Now will stream this OCL card by way of Internet pay-per-view (preorder today on www.combatsportsnow.com.)
Live coverage of OCL 12 will begin at 7 p.m. ET, 4 p.m. PT on the Website and will feature 17 MMA fights all told—including two pro fights to end the show.
After OCL 12 and OCL 13 take place this weekend, OCL will try for the third time to hold its first-ever boxing event in early June.
As for Friday, the pro card features a nontitle feature bout at Heavyweight between newcomers Antwan Phillips (1-0) and Luke Shawley (1-0) in the co-main attraction.
The headliner of OCL 12 sees the promotion’s vacant Bantamweight belt at stake as 7-3 Jerrell Hodges battles 6-2 Tommy Espinosa.
Contender Comparison:
Going into the headlining bout in Newark on Friday night, Jerell Hodge, the top-ranked contender in the state of Ohio at 135 lbs. according to Tapology, stands taller at 5-foot-7, with Tommy Espinosa standing 5-foot-6.
How they got here:
Hodge has posted a 3-2 record in his last five MMA appearances, including an ongoing two-fight winning streak, which was extended most recently thanks to a second-round kneebar submission of Tobiaus Taylor during OCL 10 a little over two months ago on March 5 at the selfsame Ohio Events Center at Cherry Valley Hotel.
In the other corner, Espinosa, a veteran of Bellator MMA, saw a four-fight losing streak snapped last time out at the hands of Andre Barquero Moreira during Cage Fury’s CFFC 72 in February of 2019 on UFC Fight Pass.
The Tale of the Tape:
Tapology shows that Espinosa owns a 65 ½-inch reach, with no such details for Jerrell Hodge.
Prediction: Jerrell Hodge by unanimous decision.
