A continuation on the Dapper Dan line. This time, we’ll be taking a look at one of their heavyweight products, the Heavy Hold Pomade: Superior Hold and Shine. Hold on tight cus’ we about to take a ride to the OG pomade days.
Design
Copying and Pasting from the previous Dapper Dan review because nothing is really different other than the color:
“The Dapper Dan aesthetic holds consistent throughout their collection, and is reminiscent of the Reuzel gritty design. A neat feature is that there are no sticker labels minus the list of the ingredients/directions on application. The lid is printed on, which makes it a seamless presentation.”
Scent
A very deep nutty vanilla is what I get. Floral, but still somewhat grainy, it veers on the side of being very smooth and pleasant.
Consistency
Slightly hard at the surface, but once broken into, it dissolves into a very clear oil.
Application
It’s like applying lotion to the hair, which means there’s a good amount of oils and moisture to alleviate the wax tugging and dryness.
Shine
ooo wee there’s a solid amount of shine.
Texture
Fine lines and very slick. You don’t be getting a textured look from this. It’ll be highly dependent on how you style it.
Strength
I mainly get a medium hold, but would still classify it as a heavy product because of the weight itself.
Control
This is why the strength is a medium hold for me. To differentiate, the control is a bit soft, meaning I wasn’t able to get a good amount of height. This functions more as a slick product.
Endurance
The beauty of oil based products is how long it lasts. It’s essentially the same, and varies by temperature. The hotter it is, the softer it will become. It lasted all day, but I obviously had to restyle.
Restyling
Easy peasy. The hair stays moldable throughout, so you won’t have any issues messing around with it.
Dryness
None
Rinsing
A good shampooing and you’ll be set.
Conclusion
The Dapper Dan Heavy Hold Pomade: Superior Hold and Shine lives up to what it’s advertised to be. It functions as a very nostalgic oil based pomade, giving lots of slickness with a good amount of weight to hold the hair in place. On top of that, the scent is very pleasant, just as long as you’re into the more floral/soft/sweet type of scents. If you’re interested, definitely check it out. Unfortunately, they don’t do any type of promo stuff, but you can find it on Amazon!
