A disturbing hazing scandal has shaken Elk Grove High School in Northern California, where several members of the varsity football team are facing disciplinary action after a locker-room bullying incident came to light through leaked video footage.
The Allegations
According to The Sacramento Bee, at least three varsity football players are accused of assaulting and humiliating a freshman teammate during a locker-room gathering. The older players allegedly pulled down the victim’s pants and simulated sexual acts on him while others looked on. Two independent sources confirmed the details of the incident to the newspaper.
The alleged assault was reportedly recorded on a cell phone, amplifying the humiliation and ensuring that the incident quickly spread within the community.
Immediate Fallout
The players involved have since been suspended from the team and were absent from Elk Grove’s home opener last Friday, according to reports.
School district spokesperson Lisa Levasseur told The Bee that “appropriate disciplinary action has been taken with the students involved” and confirmed that the district is working closely with law enforcement as the investigation continues.

The School’s Response
In a September 4 email to the parents of players, Elk Grove High principal Rudy Ortega acknowledged the seriousness of the situation.
“It has come to our attention that a group of student-athletes have engaged in behaviors that do not align with the standards of conduct and character we uphold at Elk Grove High School,” Ortega wrote.
The message also promised transparency, accountability, and increased locker-room supervision moving forward. Ortega added that the school will review “locker room culture” and student-athlete expectations as part of its response.
Larger Context
The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), which governs high school sports in the state, is not responsible for handling hazing-related discipline. Instead, those decisions fall to the schools themselves, leaving Elk Grove High to determine the length and severity of the suspensions.
The scandal comes as a blow to a school known for its proud athletic tradition. Elk Grove has produced a long list of prominent sports figures, including MLB super-agent Scott Boras, three-time NBA champion Bill Cartwright, former Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, Cubs second baseman Nick Madrigal, ex-Toronto Blue Jays catcher and manager Buck Martinez, and Seattle Mariners slugger Rowdy Tellez.

A Community on Edge
For now, the focus remains on the victim’s well-being and the school’s ability to ensure that incidents like this do not happen again. The leaked video has left parents and students deeply unsettled, while district officials face mounting pressure to rebuild trust and protect Elk Grove’s reputation as both an academic and athletic powerhouse.
