People often misinterpret WordPress.com as the self-installed version that isn’t fully hosted but a mere subsidiary. For starters, we are talking about the fully dedicated version that engulfs the myriad aspects of the ‘Content Management System’.

Better termed as WordPress.com, the platform has been completely refurbished, with its biggest update being the talk of the town. Rewriting a hosting medium from scratch isn’t easy but WordPress.com has achieved this feat, and that too with exceptional results.

The changes are far from ordinary—mostly for the enthusiastic developers who are trying to do away with the tag of an average blogger. The refined online experience is what WordPress.com looks to provide with its updated version. What steals the show is the personalized desktop application, presently rolled out for the Mac.

If the technical aspects are to be enumerated, there are a few tweaks that paved way for this update and the futuristic changes.

The first technical refurbishment would be the REST API that can be used for fetching, uploading and publishing posts. WordPress.com can now interact with the core platform, working more like a third-party application. This has initiated the request for a desktop application.

MySQL and PHP coding was taken out of consideration, with API calls and JavaScript, replacing the same. The newly transformed WordPress.com is now better equipped towards handling and distributing a WordPress Client that is functional in nature, via the browser initiated calls.

One can get a feel of the responsive interface, owing to the ‘Single Page Application’. This results in low screen loading time that makes surfing easier than before.

WordPress.com offers a lot of flexibility as long as the GNU/ ‘General Public License’ version 2 is complied with.

The desktop application, currently available for Mac makes use of an innovative technology. This would offer an identical feel of what is being worked upon, over the internet. Applications for Linux and Windows are also getting created.

The complete rearrangement of WordPress.com is a positive sign, showing the company’s eagerness to be at par with any other web publishing arena. Platforms like Medium have added a lot of intuitiveness to its framework and WordPress.com isn’t lagging behind, at least with this path-breaking update on offer.

The Web version, however, still leaves much to be desired. Some of the advanced customizations aren’t possible as of yet, mainly for the self-installed version. But for someone looking to work on a fast, clean, powerful and upgraded publishing platform, WordPress.com is a sincere bet, certainly in sync with all its contemporaries.
