We can end doubts about NVIDIA Pascal silicon knowing that the new graphics architecture will natively support Asynchronous Compute. Tasks, which are still in pending for NVIDIA Maxwell GPU cores. We remind you that this new compute engine made possible for AMD to lead in titles which were using asynchronous shaders and that’s how AMD strengthened itself into a strong position with next-Gen titles.

The GeForce GTX 1080 will support natively Asynchronous compute

In any topicality of the titles that offer such support, we already know that Asynchronous Compute is implemented in Ashes of the Singularity along with the Hitman and obviously both games are making use of DirectX 12 API. The adoption of this technology is important because it is expected that all DirectX 12 games will implement it with the consistent performance enhancement.

Thus, not only the GeForce GTX 1080, but the rest of graphics products from Pascal series (like the GeForce GTX 1070) would be able to process the asynchronous shader hardware level. During the presentation, NVIDIA said nothing, but they revealed it through a statement NVIDIA Pascal will not lose performance over AMD in Asynchronous shaders.

“Manufacturing is excellent. Increases in bandwidth and power efficiency allow the 1080 GTX operate at clock speeds never before possible – over 1700 MHz. – While consuming only 180 watts of power “

“The new IT developments, such as asynchronous shaders, improve efficiency and performance in games. And the new GPU Boost technology supports 3 advanced overclocking functionality. “

Undoubtedly, this was the most important information we could expect from the GeForce GTX 1080, so it will be interesting to see how it performs under the Asynchronous Compute supporting titles. The first benchmarking data related to GTX 1080 performance has been listed on Ashes of the Singularity benchmark leaderboard. In comparasion with AMD Radeon R9 Fury X, Nvidia GTX 1080 achieving a higher score of 4900 and an average framerate of 49.6 while AMD Radeon R9 Fury X is achieve a score of 4300 points / 44.4 FPS.

So we can say that in the Ashes of the Singularity, the NVIDIA GTX 1080 is performing around 10-12% better than AMD’s R9 Fury X. One thing which is important to mention here is that both GPUs are running on the same configurations, so the comparison between both is accurate.

We will wait for some time to see if the Asynchronous Computing is effectively implemented in NVIDIA Pascal series as the solution of AMD or not.
