“I loathe narcissism, but I approve of vanity.”

– Diana Vreeland

Start with clean, perfect skin.

Okay, none of us have perfect skin but we can have clean and healthy skin. So if you’ve decided that today is a day worth putting on makeup for, before anything happens we need to discuss your skincare routine. No matter what skin type you have, future-proofing and ensuring you have healthy skin is a major key. Start with using your specific Tailor routine to clean your face (if you’re not sure which routine is best for you, tell us and we can hook you up with an individually tailored skin routine). Once you’re spic and span we must prime the canvas. For the artists out there, you already know all about this. For the rest of us common-folk; we must learn.

Prime your skin with Tailor Moisture or Hydrate.

Priming your skin basically means putting something on your skin before you apply makeup. Primers aid in reducing fine lines and visibly reducing pores.  However, it’s actually really important as to what that something is (surprise). Not only must your primer work with your foundation and ensure your makeup stays put, it needs to leave your skin feeling nourished and BEING nourished - natural products are the best for this because a lot of non-natural products have silicone giving the illusion of soft skin. Tailor Moisture is a lightweight formula, great for using under liquid foundation. If you use a powder foundation then Tailor Hydrate is the best primer of choice. Apply the suited product on your forehead, cheeks and chin before buffing into your entire face. Voila! You’re in your prime.

Now the transformation begins.

Tailor Balm for Lips and Brows.

While you are letting your foundation sit for a few seconds, grab your Tailor Balm, apply to your lips and smack’em. Consider them primed. Now, the other sneaky benefit to the Balm, is the fact it can be a brow balm. So grab out your angled, thin brush, dip it in, and shape those bad boys! Once they’re in place, then apply powder and fill them in.

Now, because this isn’t a blog on how to do your makeup - but how to use Tailor products in your makeup routine - we are going to skip concealer, contouring, highlighting, strobing etc. (Comment if you’d like that blog to be written though because I am for the people. Who am I? No one. Arya Stark moment.)

Set your Foundation.

Carrying on from transforming - now you’re a beautiful swan! Unless you tried to do liquid eyeliner then who knows where you’ve ended up - I’ve certainly had to redraw my left eyeliner more than once. Before you apply your mascara (unless waterproof), I would advise spritzing Tailor Mist from about 20-30cm away. Not only does it make you feel like your skin has just drunk a huge glass of water - but it SETS your makeup. Do not skip. Do not pass go - until you’ve set your foundation! If it’s worth putting makeup on, it’s worth protecting (#quoteoftheday from yours truly). Now apply your mascara and carpe diem!

Removing your war paint.

Okay so let’s pretend it’s night time now and you’re home, your sweats are on, the pet cat or husband has been fed (no judgement) and you’re ready to feel free of makeup! YES! Magical. How exciting.

Let’s head to the bathroom. Grab your Oil Cleanse and squirt 3-5 pumps into your hand and massage over your face for 30 seconds. Concentrate on areas with heavier makeup and - because it’s a gentle product - taking off mascara and eye makeup should be a breeze. To remove the residue, use a warm, damp flannel and wipe away. Easy right? Now comes the second part of the dynamic cleansing duo - the Dry Cleanse. Pour 1/2tsp - 2tsp into your palm and add half as much water or enough to make a paste. The Dry Cleanse will then activate (which is why you must shut the lid when not in use so no excess moisture gets into it) and you simply massage the paste onto your skin. Concentrate on areas prone to breakouts (these tend to be more oily) and also dry areas with flakes because you can gently buff these off.

Continuing good practice for flawless skin.

Speaking of breakouts, how inconvenient are they? If you’re agreeing, maybe it’s because you decided a makeup wipe would suffice - just this once. Or maybe you didn’t even take your makeup off because you’re dating someone new... or maybe you’re not dating someone new and fell asleep on the couch with a bottle glass of red wine. (No judgement #girlpower). ANYWAY, life happens and we can help. Tailor Masque. Apply to a dry face, concentrating on breakout prone areas, let the mask sit and dry for up to 20 minutes. However, if you have dry, flaky skin don’t use the mask. The only exception to this rule is if your dry skin has breakout areas, in which case apply the mask for a couple minutes to those specific breakouts, let dry and then wipe away.

Now that we’ve primed our skin with Tailor Moisture or Hydrate, put on makeup, taken it off again and applied a mask... there’s only one step left: we need to replenish your beautiful, healthy skin.

If you have normal or combination skin, you can support it’s dull appearance by pumping up the water content with humectant materials. Use ingredients to rehydrate your dry spots and eye area like vitamin b5 and coconut glycerin - found in Hydrate. Everywhere else use Moisture.

If you have oily skin or breakout prone skin, try the oil balancing cream with a whipped cream texture: Moisture. This formula helps balance breakout prone skin whilst leaving your skin supple and grease free.

Last but not least, dry skin. Your skin requires oils which combine together to have a complete fatty acid profile like organic hemp seed oil,  jojoba oil and NZ Grown Walnut Oil - these have the fatty acids your skin needs to look healthy and moisturised - both of these ingredients are in Tailor Serum.

You’re done! Feeling good? What a time to be alive.
