I have an unusual situation and have some questions I'm hoping someone will be able to answer. Some background first. I'm an exPat Brit living abroad and I usually return to the UK once or twice a year. My next visit is on the 23rd of this month for 10 days. I still have a UK bank account and Visa debit card and my brother still lives in the UK, so I have a UK address which I can use for post. Here are my questions:
1. I have an unlocked iPhone 5s, my wife's iPhone is locked. She's logged onto a hotspot I've created on my iPhone before, I'm presuming we'll be able to do this if I have a GiffGaff SIM? If so, are there any restrictions limitations I should be aware of?
2. If I order a SIM so it arrives (at my brother's) before the 23rd, can I get him to read me the code, activate it and add a goodybag before before I leave for the UK so it's ready to go as soon as I meet my brother at the airport? Or, will I have to wait until I can actually put the SIM in my iphone before I can activate it and add a goodybag?
3. Are there any issues using VOIP? I'll keep in touch with friends and family back here using Viber or Skype, my does wife too. If I use a GiffGaff SIM, I'll obviously have a different number, as Viber is linked to the number, will my contacts still be able to get me?
4. As I only come back to the UK every 6 months or so for maybe 2 weeks at a time, will I have to throw my GiffGaff SIM away and get a new one for each visit or will it remain active even if I don't use it for many months? It must expire eventually if I don't use it, anyone know what the time limit is?
5. What would be the best way to order a SIM so it arrived (at my brother's) by say the 21st?
